Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I noticed a new category, Create a Hero. It, of course, allows you to create your own heroes to play in the game with you. How many types of heroes are there for you to choose from?

Answer: Five

They are: Men of the West, Dwarves, Elves, Wizards, Servants of Sauron and Corrupted Men. After selecting your main hero type, you can select a sub-category from a small list.
2. There are six races to play. Can you tell me which of the following is not one of the races?

Answer: Agnamar

Agnamar is only playable when you purchase the 'Rise of the Witch-King' expansion set. Dwarves, Elves and Goblins are the 3 new races that you can use in this game, but none are in 'Battle for Middle-Earth' 1.
3. Something is different here. In the first game, you upgrade a structure by using is often. However, military buildings are different in this game! You have to pay a fee to upgrade them! Is it possible to upgrade them by just making units from them?

Answer: No

After doing this myself and observing my ally, I came to the conclusion that it cannot be accomplished. After all, I had made about 8 units from a single structure and it hadn't gained ANY experience!
4. If you have played Battle for Middle-Earth 1, you may recall that orc warriors are free units. How much do they cost in Battle #2, however?

Answer: 100

Of course, every battalion has more units than in the first game, and I expect this is the reason. They seem to be more powerful, too.
5. Castle sieges are fun, but there is a major difference between games 1 and 2 when dealing with sieges. What is this?

Answer: Regular units can damage the gate.

This makes it much harder to defend a castle. When the enemy attacked with 1,000 orcs in the first game, you are perfectly safe when behind a wall with the gate closed. If the enemy attacked in such numbers in #2 and attacked the gate, it would be game over.
6. I noticed something strange on the menu that appears right before you play a certain game. A pull-down switch with a hero made from Create a Hero is on it. How does this switch work?

Answer: The selected hero can be made by you in addition to your regular heroes.

I noticed that, no matter how powerful the hero, they always seem to cost 2000 to summon. Therefore, it makes it easy for you to summon a super-powerful hero that can rule the battlefield.
7. There is a new rule when playing Skirmishes. Gollum is hiding somewhere on the map, stealthed and holding the Ring. If you kill him, you can pick up the Ring and take it back to your Fortress. What bonus does it provide?

Answer: You can create your appropriate Ring Hero.

Galadriel is for good, Sauron is for evil. After taking the ring back, I looked to see what I needed to summon Galadriel- 10,000 resources.
8. There are neutral buildings scattered across the map. The last three questions are about them. First of all, an inn. What function does it provide?

Answer: It can give special units to factions.

It gives Hobbits for Elves, Men of Dale for Dwarves, Corsairs of Umbar for Mordor and Goblins, and Wild Men of Dunland for Isengard. This structure may be vital to your success, and is especially nice if you like using powerful or harder-to-get units.
9. What function does the outpost provide?

Answer: Gives extra resources.

It's a simple structure, but gives a lot of resources when you gain control of it. A lot of these structures will give you thousands of resources in no time.
10. How do you gain control of all the neutral structures on the battlefield?

Answer: You capture their flag.

The way this works is as follows: you take a military unit (or units) near it and right click on the small flag symbol that appears when you move your cursor over the structure's main flag. Your units will stand there for a while while your faction's flag is raised onto the flag pole.

After it is all the way up to the top, you control the building and a voice notifies you of this. Note that if your units move while capturing a building, you must start all over to try and re-capture it.
