"Battle for Middle-Earth"..A Tour Quiz

Hi! "The Battle for Middle-Earth" (PC version) is one of my favorite video games of all time. I was surprised to see that there was only one other quiz on it, so I decided to make another. This is about the first game. No questions are from the campaign.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When you play a certain "race" (as in Mordor, Isengard, Rohan and Gondor) each "race" has building foundations that are symbolized by a certain shape. What is that shape?

Answer: It depends on which "race" you play

Mordor uses an eye foundation, Isengard a hand foundation, Rohan a horse head foundation and Gondor uses a tree foundation. Also, when playing elves in the Good campaign, a symbol sort of like a leaf appears.
2. Some castles have walls and gates in the games (remember, this is on this is not about the campaign). Which two races have walls and gates?

Answer: Rohan and Gondor

The main walls are only in maps with the castle setting (smaller walls are in a base when built on a camp, but they are just like little barriers, not a fully-fledged defensive position) and can be vital to your success. Put lots of archers on the walls, and when the enemy comes near, the archers will shoot them down quickly.
3. Some battlefields have ruins on them. Some also have ruined towers. Now, one might say "what use are they?" However, they are important structures. What bonus do they give you?

Answer: Archers can go inside and shoot down at enemies.

These towers provide an amazing defensive position. It can withstand heavy assault from ground forces. However, be aware that one units are moved inside the tower, they cannot be moved back out. Once the tower is destroyed, so are the archers inside.
4. Each "race" has special powers to use both against the enemy and to help your "race". How do you get these Power Points?

Answer: By fighting and killing enemies

Powers become increasingly more expensive as the earlier ones are bought. Powers that you have already bought appear on the left-side of the screen. Some powers don't need to be clicked on to be activated. Just be sure you press the right button when casting one!
5. Good and evil each have hero units to recruit and fight for your cause. Heroes have a rank when they are made. Can heroes that just come out of their recruitment place ever have a rank greater than one (when they are just made, not when they are revived)?

Answer: Yes

Aragorn, Gandalf and Sauroman all have a rank of five when they come out. All Ring Wraiths and Treebeard have a rank of ten (the maximum for any hero or group of units) when they come out.
6. Three different kinds of neutral units roam the lands of Middle-Earth. Which one of these units (compared to ALL the creatures you find around the lair, not just single creatures) is the most powerful?

Answer: Cave troll

Cave trolls are easily the best. Once, I was playing and I saw my ally attack with about 30 drafted peasants. The cave troll killed them all, knocking three, four or five into the air with each attack. Ranged units are almost essential when fighting a cave troll.
7. There are places on the map which are called "Settlements". Each "race" can build at least one building on a Settlement. Rohan can build an additional structure on a Settlement that no other "race" can. What is that structure called?

Answer: An entmoot

When an entmoot is built, four ents rise up and you gain control of them. Unfortunately, they have a time limit. However, you can buy new ents or Treebeard out of the entmoot, and they are not timed. If attacked by ents, use fire arrows.
8. Isengard has a horrible weapon, the explosive mine. The mine-carriers place the mine on the ground, and then disappear. The mine, however, stays. Flaming arrows, as well as what else, can set it off?

Answer: A berserker's torch

After the mine is lit, the whole area around the place where the mine is explodes. The damage is devastating. Unfortunately, however, the berserker or archers (with flaming arrows) that set the mine of are killed. If destroyed by a non-flaming weapon, it will break into harmless pieces of metal.
9. All warriors cost money, right. WRONG! One warrior group in the game costs NO money to build. Can you tell me which one?

Answer: Orc warriors

Warriors are not great fighters, but are plentiful. However, they are expensive command-point wise. I usually don't bother building them unless by base or outpost is under attack and I need cheap, quick reinforcements.
10. How much does the most expensive hero cost, and who is he?

Answer: 8000, Witch-King

The Witch-King is basically an enhanced version of the regular Nazghul. At 3000 more in resources, it can steer its Fellbeast downwards to knock over enemies and pick one up, which it then drops from about 30 feet. It can also shriek to scare away enemy soldiers.
