Carmen Sandiego: Word Detective Quiz

As a big fan of the previous "Carmen Sandiego" games, I was excited to get into this one. Although the game is aimed at a younger audience, it's full of word-based puzzles that are interesting and fun. This game is played on the PC. Good luck!

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What number is your agent?

Answer: Thirteen

Although you log into the game with your own name, you are referred to as Agent 13 by Chase Devineaux, Carmen, and the other agents. The previous twelve agents were captured by Carmen in order to become test subjects.
2. Where are the kidnapped agents imprisoned?

Answer: The Tower of Babble

Whenever agents decide to investigate the tower, Carmen captures them and uses them as guinea pigs for her Babble-on Machine, which has the power to destroy languages. Chase Devineaux has decided to assign you to the case in order to save the world and your fellow agents.
3. Is Carmen seen in this game?

Answer: Yes

Carmen is seen in the opening sequence, and throughout the game in different cutscenes. Different challenges in the game give the hint that Carmen and Chase were once colleagues at ACME. Once Carmen defected to VILE, Chase left ACME for a while to investigate the Babble-on Machine.
4. What is the name of Chase Devineaux's falcon?

Answer: Phoenix

Phoenix is seen and talked about in only a few of Chase's messages to you. In these messages, Chase will give you positive input and encouragement before you continue your journey.
5. Where is the first Babble-on Key found?

Answer: Otto Readmore's Hideout

Babble-on Keys are used to free your fellow agents from their restraints attached to the Babble-on Machine. Once you receive enough passwords, you can obtain the key from within the key stasher and head back to the Tower of Babble. There are twelve keys to acquire by the end of the game.
6. How many VILE hideouts are in North America?

Answer: Three

Nick Furtive's office is in Chicago, Otto Readmore's hideout is in New York, and Electra Vector's cave is beneath the Hoover Dam. There are twelve VILE hideouts in the game; one for each agent that must be saved.
7. How many games in "Carmen Sandiego: Word Detective" require the keyboard to play?

Answer: Two

Only "Spellanyzer" and "Code Breaker" need the keyboard, while "Power Pack", "Fusion Chamber", and "Micropix" don't. "Spellanyzer" is basically a spelling bee where you need to spell words out correctly, and in "Code Breaker", it's occasionally possible to change letters. To do this, you'll need to type the letter you want to replace with.
8. How many levels/difficulties are found in each game?

Answer: Three

The games rise in difficulty starting at level one. All games have the ability to increase and decrease in level, but if the level is changed in the middle of a game, all of the progress on the game will be reset. The puzzle that needs to be solved at the very end of the game also includes three different levels.
9. The game "Code Breaker" features the 'Builder' version which allows you to search for words in a jumbled pile of letters and build your own words by changing letters. What is the other version of "Code Breaker"?

Answer: Searcher

The 'Searcher' version of "Code Breaker" will supply you with a list of words to find in the same-sized jumbled heap as the 'Builder' version. To win, you simply need to find every word. The size of the puzzle and difficulty of words are increased when the level of the game is raised.
10. What is the largest amount of passwords required for a key stasher in the game?

Answer: Six

These six passwords are acquired when you finish six games. The first four keys of the game are located in key stashers which only require four passwords to enter, five passwords are needed for the second set of four, and six are needed for the final set. Once all of the keys are obtained and the other twelve agents are freed one final puzzle will be solved before the Tower of Babble is destroyed and the world is saved.

Despite all of this, Carmen still escapes.
