Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Despite the title of the game being "F.E.A.R.", it is actually an acronym. What does "F.E.A.R." actually stand for?

Answer: First Encounter Assault Recon

"F.E.A.R.", or First Encounter Assault Recon, is a fictional division of the United States military that deals with investigating and isolating hostile paranormal activity. The main character of the game, the "Point-Man" of the "F.E.A.R." team, is the player controlled character. He boasts special powers that can slow down time to help him take out enemies.
2. The primary objective throughout the course of the game is to hunt down and kill the man who took control of a battalion of clone soldiers. What was this man's name?

Answer: Paxton Fettel

Paxton Fettel was the primary candidate of a secret government project that allowed one man to control an entire army. After taking control of the game's army, he kills everyone at the secret research base he was held at. Paxton has an unusual tendency to eat people's flesh.

It is revealed that the reason for his cannibalism is not nutritional, but rather to see the memories of his victims. He also has the ability to warp in and out of the human's conscious mind at any time. The only weakness the man ever had was the fact that a government tracker was placed into his head, making it easy to find him.

He did elude escape several times, however.
3. The antagonist of the game controls an army of one thousand soldiers all by his lonesome. How does he do that?

Answer: Telepathically

Paxton Fettel controls the army of the game with his mind. Although their strategies are self-thought, their actions and mobility are all controlled by the mind of Paxton. Near the end of the game, when Fettel is shot dead, the last three Replica Soldiers just turn off and freeze in their place.
4. Throughout the game, it is almost essential for the player to pick up power-ups to boost certain aspects of their character. For example, there is a blue power-up that permanently adds five points to the characters' health. The other power-up boosts the characters' reflexes by a similar amount. What color is it?

Answer: Green

The player of the game would be wise to pick up the power-ups scattered throughout each level of the game. As the levels go on the enemies only get tougher. Trying to brave the game with 100 health and average reflexes is a near impossibility. With the power-ups, the player can double their health and their reflexes. Warning: the game still remains difficult with double health and reflexes.
5. The enemies of "F.E.A.R." are crafty, powerful and tremendously intelligent. There are several variants of the game's enemies. Which of the following isn't one of them?

Answer: Replica Sharpshooter

The Replica Sharpshooter is not an actual unit in "F.E.A.R.". The Replica Elite are similar to the normal soldiers, except they have different coloring on their armor and more powerful weapons. The Heavy Replica is my least favorite. They are covered with metallic armor and take anywhere from 2-3 clips from an automatic weapon or three grenades to kill.

Other enemies encountered throughout the game include the REV 6, Replica Assassin, ATC Security Guard and Unmanned Air Vehicles. The REV 6 is essentially a mech with heavy firepower. Replica Assassins look like Sam Fisher from the "Splinter Cell" games, but they are more acrobatic and have a cloaking ability. ATC Security Guards are just humans, with light armor. Unmanned Air Vehicles fire laser beams and take few shots to kill.
6. One of the game's later missions takes the "Point-Man" to the secret vault, where all of the game's sinister happenings originate. What is the name of the company that owns the facility?

Answer: Armacham Technology Corporation

Armacham Technology Corporation was responsible for the "Origin" project and the clone army battalion. It is also where most of the game's main character's have origins. ATC Guards made up most of the enemies in the beginning of the level, however, the Replica Soldiers took over to cause the "Point-Man" trouble.
7. The game's story eventually leads the player to realize the name of a top secret psychic project. What is it called?

Answer: Origin

"Origin" was formed so psychics could be created from a powerful psychic host. A young girl named Alma was taken away at the age of eight and impregnated at the age of 15 to create two psychically gifted people. Eventually, she went mad and became more of a paranormal horror than anything. During the events of the game, she had amazing powers that extended beyond the basic psychic ones.

She could teleport from place to place at will, she could take the characters into flashbacks of her life, and summon demon-like creatures.

She could also make the flesh melt off of any person she wished. Ouch!
8. Which of the following character relations are false?

Answer: Alice Wade is Harlan Wade's sister.

Paxton Fettel and the "Point-Man" are revealed to have been created by Alma Wade, during the "Origin" project. Harlan Wade was Alma's father. His twisted science mind eventually forced him to turn her into a gruesome experiment. Near the end of "F.E.A.R." she did kill Harlan, quite brutally, in fact. Alice Wade, an ill-fated character, happens to be Harlan Wade's other daughter, the one he didn't subject to experimentation.

The "Point-Man" is one of the few characters to survive to the end.
9. Whatever happened to the secret base?

Answer: It blew up.

After destroying the reactors in the vault of the base, the "Point-Man" triggered a dangerous element. He had almost no time to leave the building, and when he did, a large explosion destroyed the base and a large chunk of surrounding land. Fortunately the "Point-Man" survived.
10. Does the paranormal girl Alma survive the "Point-Man" and the violent destruction of the secret base?

Answer: Yes

After being triggered into a flashback sequence late in the game, the player is given a pistol to try and stop his "mother" from killing him. After unloading enough pistol rounds into her, she disappears, leading the player to believe that they finally killed her. At the end of the game, as the three members of the "F.E.A.R." team are leaving the Armacham Research Base, one of the members inquires if Alma survived. An instant after that, Alma is seen at the edge of the helicopter before the screen fades to black and ends the game. Spooky!
