Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which is worth more points: Favorite Fruit or Lucky Fruit?

Answer: Lucky Fruit

A Favorite Fruit will give you three points, while a Lucky Fruit is worth eight. Thus, Lucky Fruits should be your top priority after melons.

There are normally twelve Lucky Fruits in each level. However, if a level has lots of Shy Guys, you can get more Lucky Fruits by eating a Heart Fruit and then pounding the ground. Sometimes it's even possible to get thirty Lucky Fruits!

If you're using the black or white Yoshi, you should also eat as many chili peppers as possible. They won't count towards your thirty fruits for the level, and unlike the six "normal" Yoshis, the black and white ones will score an extra point for each.
2. Defeating an enemy that is the same color as your Yoshi is worth more than defeating a different-colored enemy.

Answer: True

Three times as much, to be exact. You can make Shy Guys change colors by pounding the ground.

If you encounter several Shy Guys in a row, keep pounding the ground until the one farthest away from you is the color of your Yoshi. Then shoot them all with one egg and rack up massive combo points!

The black and white Yoshis will not only get the three-point bonus for any normal Shy Guy, but they can also happily eat black Shy Guys, unlike the other six Yoshis.
3. After eating a Heart Fruit, what will sometimes appear?

Answer: Coins

Usually, coins don't make that much of a difference. When you're Super Happy, though, previously inaccessible coins will appear and must be collected before the happiness wears off. Often they will come in very large groups, which can add a few dozen points to your score.

Most notable are the coins that make the shapes of letters. One such letter is in each level, just after its mini-game or puzzle. If you put all the letters in order of the levels they appear in, they spell the message "You are Yoshi's great partner!"

In a few cases, collecting all the coins in an area is necessary to get certain melons.
4. To unlock all twenty-four levels, what must be collected in Story Mode?

Answer: Big Hearts

On each page, the more hearts you collect, the more levels you have to choose from on the next page. There are a total of 4096 possible paths you can take through Story Mode -- try playing all the "Level 4's" (which means you need all three hearts in each of pages 1 through 5)!

If you find a white Shy Guy, keep him until the end of the level, and he will rescue one of your lost Yoshis (if you have any). Large Yoshi eggs will hatch into the unlockable black and white Yoshis, which will remain playable even if you start a new Story Mode game.
5. What is the only level that contains both a Melon Race and a Special Delivery mini-game?

Answer: 3-4: Frustration

The Melon Race comes first, and involves riding a wooden wheel (like the one at the beginning) across a large chasm. While earning the seven melons for the race is not that difficult, don't forget to grab the melons that are in the path!

The Special Delivery is later, and requires you to avoid a giant centipede while simultaneously balancing the stack of precious melons. Perhaps the level got its name from this challenge.
6. If the black and white Yoshis are lost during Story Mode, the white Shy Guy can rescue them.

Answer: True

The black and white Yoshis are excellent for scoring big (you get extra points just for having them!), but if you lose them, they'll be gone and you'll have to go back and unlock them again. Fortunately, if you find a white Shy Guy before the end of your game, you can get them back without having to start over.

Score aside, the black and white Yoshis actually make the game slightly easier, as everything they eat gives them more health than the other Yoshis would get (they can even eat some things that the other Yoshis can't). Take care when using them in the castle, though... if they do die, you'll have no white Shy Guy to help you out.
7. You can regain health by eating all of the following enemies, but which are the only ones that will give you points?

Answer: Blurps

The others will continue to spawn indefinitely, meaning you can just stand there and keep gobbling up more and more. If you're low on health, this can help you, but it won't get you any extra points.

To get health from Peepers (the yellow chicks in 3-2: The Tall Tower), you actually have to shoot them with eggs first, then eat them. If you eat them without shooting them, you will only get extra eggs, no health.
8. If you're not going for all melons, then aside from using black or white, you will get the most points by using a Yoshi whose Favorite Fruit is the same as the Lucky Fruit.

Answer: False

If the Lucky Fruit and Favorite Fruit match, the Favorite Fruit bonus becomes non-existent, and three out of five fruit types will be worth only one point each. If you use a Yoshi whose Favorite Fruit is not the Lucky Fruit, you get eight points for the Lucky and three points for the Favorite, leaving only two fruit types that are worth one.
9. Even during boss battles, you can continue to gain points. Eating which of these will NOT help your score?

Answer: The falling appliances during the Don Bongo fight

The appliances serve as your only source of eggs, and as such, continue to be available for consumption all throughout the battle. Therefore, as with the continually-respawning enemies, there are no points attached to them.

Yep, there are points to be gained from the Super Happy Tree itself. The tree has it all: at least one of every fruit including melons, and even Heart Fruits! You may have used the tree to stay alive during the fight, but the fruits also add to your point total (with the exception of multipliers for the same fruits in a row), including the usual 100 points per melon! For this reason, the castles are the only levels in the game where it is possible to finish with more than 30 melons.
10. During the credits, the text of the storybook's final page (with the Yoshis dancing around the tree) is based on what?

Answer: Your total score

If you break 10,000, 15,000 or 30,000 points, you are rewarded with a different ending to the story. (Don't worry, they're all happy endings!)

The illustration of the last page will always show all six original Yoshis, regardless of any that were lost. If the black and white Yoshis made it to the end, they will be shown as well.
