Prior to events in the first game, Earth had begun solar exploration and within the Alpha Centauri system two planets were found - Vekta, very much like Earth, and Helghan, inhospitable but rich in minerals. After colonisation, the First Extrasolar War broke out between the Interplanetary Strategic Alliance (ISA) and Helghan Corporation forces which originally inhabited Vekta.

In the first 'Killzone', Helghast forces had invaded Vekta but the response from ISA forces eventually ground the Helghast forces to a halt and the Helghast are eventually defeated.

The goal during 'Killzone 2' is the invasion of Helghan and the capture of the Helghast leader, Scolar Visari.

The player character and main protagonist in the first 'Killzone' was Jan Templar, who had been promoted to Colonel and led ISA forces for the invasion in 'Killzone 2'. For the invasion of Helghan, the player character is Sergeant First Class Tomas "Sev" Sevchenko, member of the ISA Special Forces: Alpha Team. Also part of the team are Master Sergeant Rico Velasquez (returning from 'Killzone'), Corporal Shawn Natko and Corporal Dante Garza.

From a piece of arc tower previously destroyed by Alpha Team, ISA scientist Evelyn Batton concludes that the arc towers are powered by petrusite. The ISA learn that the majority of petrusite can be found near the Tharsis Refinery on the outskirts of Pyrrhus, so Alpha Team are sent with Batton to disable the towers.

Answer: New Sun

The ISA had established control over the skies and space over Helghan during their original assault but a surprise counter-attack by Helghast forces resulted in the near destruction of the ISA fleet. During the attack, Helghast force invade lead ship New Sun, on which Evelyn is executed and Colonel Templar is mortally wounded. Leader of the Helghast forces, Colonel Radec, also manages to steal nuclear launch codes.

In his final act, Templar flies the New Sun into the Tharsis Refinery which wipes out the Helghast defence network.

Sev and Rico of Alpha Team storm Visari Palace and find Scolar Visari in his throne room. Visari goads both Sev and Rico during his final speech, stating that the Helghast will never surrender, ISA actions have been for nothing and the death of friends have been worthless. Rico reacts to Visaris' threats by shooting the Helghast leader, his last words being 'The madness... begins'. Sev walks out of the throne room, sits on the palace steps and looks up to see a Helghast fleet, precipitating events that would occur in 'Killzone 3'.

The first chapter of 'Killzone 3' has the player controlling a Helghast soldier who have arrived a Stahl Arms Corporation, where they are taken for the execution of James Narville. However, just before execution, the player character is revealed to be Sevchenko, who along with Rico have disguised themselves as Helghast soldiers in a rescue attempt of Narville.

Answer: Malcolm McDowell

The death of Visari at the end of 'Killzone 2' had left a power vacuum with events in 'Killzone 3' as much about the power struggle within Helghast politics as about the Helghast attempts to destroy ISA forces. Malcom McDowell provided the voice for Jorhan Stahl for 'Killzone 3'. Brian Cox had provided the voice for Scolar Visari while Ray Winstone provided the voice for Admiral Orlock in 'Killzone 3'.

Led by Captain Narville, the remnants of the ISA invasion force fight their way back through a devastated Pyrrhus to ships that will take them back into orbit and eventually back to Vekta or Earth. But under sustained Helghast fire, the evacuation is a disaster with few ISA ships managing to escape while Sev, Narville and Rico all remain stuck on Helghan. Chapter 13 starts with the words 'Six months on...' and news that the ISA has negotiated a cease-fire with the Helghast and that ISA forces still on Helghan must surrender.

Answer: Arc cannon

Stahl would prove to be extremely critical of the Helghast military leadership and most of the Helghast Army during 'Killzone 3'. Stahl Arms had produced numerous effective weapons, including the Arc cannon which fired irradiated petrusite, which when fired would leave enemies in a cloud of green goo. During the final chapters, Stahl would execute Admiral Orlock using one of these weapons.

Answer: No

During the final battle, Sev, Rico and Jammer hijack two Helghast ships and pursue Stahl's cruiser. Eventually Stahl's cruiser is forced to crash land on Helghan. Rico then launches a nuclear weapon at Stahl which knocks out the entire Helghast fleet and obliterates most of Helghan itself. Jammer notices that comms traffic is quiet, with Rico noticing the fleet knocked out, to which Jammer says 'I mean nothing. The entire planet is silent.' Sev questions 'Jesus, how many people were down there?'

During the credits, two Helghast soldiers find an escape pod but the identity of the occupant is not revealed, with soldiers merely stating 'Welcome home, Sir'.
