Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How is Ernie Leach killed?

Answer: He drowns in the vat

Looking at him doesn't give you any obvious clues, but the narrator points out that he smells like alcohol. The vats are alcohol vats. In addition, Ernie Leach's office is next to the vats, and Olympia Myklos calls him to fix the clog in vat 13. From there, you can deduce that when he went there to fix the clog, the killer pushed him in the vat. Lucky for Laura the killer wasn't there when she was searching the vat.
2. Who does Wolf Heimlich accuse of the crimes?

Answer: Laura Bow

Wolf Heimlich is suspicious of Laura because she is always the first person to find the bodies. In reality, she's just a better cop and detective than Wolf Heimlich and Detective O'Riley.
3. Who makes an appearance in act four who didn't appear in all of act three?

Answer: Steve Dorian

Steve Dorian appears right outside of Yvette's office in act four. Laura wonders what she is doing there, since he wasn't invited to the party, and why he had disappeared for a while. He says he was there to see her, and he was gone because other women kept asking for him. Olympia Myklos wanted to see his scars and Yvette wanted to show him his tattoo. Laura is unhappy that he is not upset by this and that he did not try to fend them off. Steve insists that he was just being nice.

Then Yvette comes in and asks Steve for a backrub. Steve goes into the office and gives her the back rub. Laura assumes that Steve and Yvette are going to have sex so she walks in on them, only to see that Steve was just giving her a backrub (but Laura still was sad about it).
4. Who was set free for the last murder?

Answer: Barney

Barney, Olympia Myklos' pet cobra, was set free by the killer to poison someone. Myklos walks into her office to see that the person is dying. Myklos is a little slow in figuring out what is happening. To make matters worse, the dying person tells Myklos the name of the killer, but Myklos mistakenly thinks that she is asking for him and goes to search for him, leaving the snake free. Myklos tells Laura that someone is dying in her office, so Laura goes into her office to investigate but must deal with the cobra first.

Daisy is Myklos' pet ferret. The ferret has nothing to do with the murders.

Ice Pick is the name of a loan shark whom Ernie Leach owed a lot of money to. Yvette thinks Ice Pick killed Leach.

The marching ants are a running gag that appears several times throughout the game (they can open doors somehow). They never kill anybody except possibly Laura. They eat Carrington's flesh after he already died.
5. In act five, going to which part of the museum will automatically get Laura killed?

Answer: Lobby

In act five, Laura must go from the screen with the thinker to the mastodon room to the pterodactyl room to the armor room, then she must hide in a tomb in the Egyptian exhibit. If she makes one mistake, she's dead.
6. In a secret room in the basement, Laura discovers some sun worshippers. Who is their leader?

Answer: Ramses Najeer

Laura hadn't actually seen Najeer since act two, although she did overhear him with Yvette. Najeer and the other sun worshippers are in a hidden room that's behind a normally locked door, behind two secret passages, and down an elevator. They didn't think anyone would find them. But Laura is running from a serial killer so she's going wherever she can to get away from the killer. Najeer is not happy when Laura discovers him and his minions. Although Laura promises to keep the sun worshippers a secret, Najeer doesn't trust her because she is a reporter, who could write about them and make them a major story and blow their secret. The sun worshippers intend to sacrifice Laura, but then Laura tells them "I thought the Egyptians didn't make HUMAN sacrifices." Najeer then learns that Laura knows a little bit about Egyptology, so he says that it is Amon Ra's law that if she can solve a riddle, they must let her go. Laura must answer the riddle in hieroglyphics (so if you didn't look at both halves of the Rosetta stone, you will be stuck here). The riddle is the same riddle Ziggy told to her earlier in the game (so you had all game to think about it). If you don't know the riddle, there is a hint in Dr. Myklos's office in the form of a message in hieroglyphics. It's a two-part riddle with rhyming answers. Synonyms not accepted.

If Laura solves the riddle, Najeer lets her go. She then tells her that the killer is chasing her. Najeer had been in the hidden room since act two (except for one brief moment of time when she was with Yvette) so he was unaware of the murders. Najeer promises Laura that he and his sun worshippers will stop the killer. They fail. The killer kills two of the sun worshippers and gets by. Najeer survives.
7. Who does Laura find in the furnace room?

Answer: Steve Dorian

Dorian was captured by the killer and dumped down a chute that led to the furnace room. The killer then left him for dead. Actually, he was just unconscious. Laura must move the coal on his body and wake him up with the smelling salts she found on one of the corpses.

She also must return his boot. If Dorian steps barefoot on the floor, he will stub his foot on something or the floor will be too cold, and he will scream and he'll fall to the ground unconscious, where he will remain until the killer breaks into to kill him and Laura. If Laura dies from this point on, Steve Dorian dies too.
8. What should Laura do with the cheese when she encounters the rats?

Answer: Throw it to the left passage

The left passage leads to the furnace. That's where you want to lead the rats.

If you throw the cheese right at the rats, they will quickly eat the cheese and then they will eat both Laura and Dorian.

If you throw it to the right passage, the rats will be waiting outside the exit to eat Laura and Dorian.

There is no middle passage.
9. Who committed most of the murders?

Answer: Detective O'Riley

Detective O-Riley was the murderer and the man responsible for the dagger theft (he didn't steal it but he made someone else steal it), therefore he is the main villain of the game.

This starts becoming clear in act four, where there are two murders and most of the evidence points to O'Riley. You find red hairs on Yvette's corpse and in her office. You notice that Steve Dorian, who has red hair, was with Yvette right before she died, but characters have the power of teleportation in adventure games so you have to discount the timeline. You also have to find Dorian's boot in the armor room for later in the game, and to learn that he is not the killer and to be reminded that Steve Dorian isn't the only person with red hair. O'Riley has red hair too, and unlike Dorian, O'Riley has a mustache, which means the red hairs could have come off while he and Yvette were kissing.

In addition, Laura finds grapes on the Countess's body and remembers that O'Riley loves grapes.

Lastly, the last thing the Countess says before she dies is "O'Riley."
10. Who actually stole the dagger and committed the first murder in the game?

Answer: Watney Little

Detective O'Riley released Watney Little from prison and somehow convinced him to kill Dr. Archibald Carrington III and impersonate him. Then, O'Riley convinced Little to steal the dagger. So, Watney Little is the second most evil person in the game. However, he dies and no one misses him.
11. Which murder had a different motive from the other murders?

Answer: Yvette Delacroix

For the other three murders, the motive is "Financial gain" or "Cover another crime." The details of why O'Riley was committing crimes in the first place aren't clearly revealed, although he can be heard telling someone that he has seen many cops go bad because of the stress related to the job. Most likely, O'Riley became one of the very cops he was complaining about because of the things he mentioned to Laura at the beginning of the game when she first met him.

The motive behind Yvette's murder is easy to explain though. If Laura is in the right place at the right time, she overhears a conversation between O'Riley and Delacroix, where he says that he loves her and that he'd have to kill her if he ever found out she was sleeping with someone else. Well, Delacroix slept with EVERYONE else, so O'Riley was true to his word.
12. Who did fencing as a side business?

Answer: Ernie Leach

Some paperwork found in Leach's office as well as some overheard conversation reveal that Ernie Leach did fencing. In the ending, the coroners says that Leach built a nice fence around his house. So it was that kind of fencing. The legal kind!

Ernie Leach is probably the nicest and most ethical person ever to die in a Laura Bow game.
13. Which crimes are the most important to the coroner?

Answer: The murders

There are four different endings to this game. The best ending is when you solve both the murders and the dagger theft. The 2nd best ending is when you solve the murders, but not the dagger theft. The 3rd best ending is when you solve the dagger theft but not the murders. The worst ending is when you completely blow it.

You have to solve the murders, or else Laura will get murdered at the very end.

Solving the dagger theft is important to some characters. In the 2nd best ending, Laura remains alive but Dr. Pippin Carter haunts her for the rest of her life because she didn't find the dagger.

The other two crimes are meaningless. They don't affect the ending, and you don't even get points for solving them. There are no points in this game. All you get is commentary from the narrator, or at the end of the game the coroner, on how well you did. Anyway, the perpetrators of the other two crimes are all dead.
14. In the best ending, who does Olympia Myklos marry?

Answer: Wolf Heimlich

If you get the best ending, Wolf Heimlich keeps his job thanks to Laura. So he and Myklos marry and have a child named Morgana.

If you get the worst ending, Heimlich gets fired and commits suicide and Myklos moves to Montana to do full-time paleontology research.
15. What happens to the killer in the worst ending?

Answer: He gets rich, and then moves to Ireland to retire

Detective O'Riley gets promoted to full-time homicide detective if you don't get him incarcerated. After three years, he amasses a small fortune and moves to Ireland to retire. In the best ending, he goes to jail and swears revenge on Laura Bow. But there are no more Laura Bow games after this one so he never gets it.

Ramses Najeer is the one who becomes a millionaire in 15 years.

No one moves back to Egypt and lives happily ever after in the worst ending. Tut Smith does this if the dagger is found.
