When a demon takes possession of your friends, you locate or create potions and elixirs to overcome its evil while discovering who or what is responsible. Each scene or locale has list of items which you need to complete a task and earn a pieces of a puzzle.

The objects can be maps, tools, supplies etc. Your inventory is updated as you collect the objects and displayed at the bottom of the screen. They remain in your inventory until you need them.

You're invited to visit your friend Kira and her husband Victor. Upon your arrival in the town of Baumholder the temperature begins plummeting. Ice and snow storms cover the town just as a ominous huge Ice Tower appears out of nowhere. As the story unfolds you learn of Victor's connection to the Ice Kingdom. You help Victor battle Ice Giants, who have kidnapped Kira, encounter the Ice King Arzak and gain entry to his kingdom, all with many tasks and challenges along the way.

In some games the HOP is interactive. In the casual mode all hint indicators are preset. There's even a "skip" option if you prefer not to play a minigame. Minigames can be logic puzzles, memory match, sliding tiles, lock picking and more. In the Custom mode you decide which features to use. Advanced and Expert modes don't have any of these hints or helpful features.

In addition to collecting the character figures there are various hidden animals throughout the game. There's an Achievement Room displaying awards for collections, timing, completion of minigames and a trophy for completing the game.

The police have been unsuccessful in finding any evidence and the detective suspects the killer could be something supernatural. The Bonus game explores a sunken city. In addition to character figures and various other collectibles the game includes morphing objects to collect which add to your achievements.

The music includes track listings of five or six songs. Scenes from the games are available for download and even a gallery of artwork showing the stages in character creation. It's very interesting to see how the original concepts developed into the final characters.

When playing "Mystery of the Ancients: No Escape" you might recognize some slightly "recycled" graphics or scenes from previous games with subtle changes or additions. However the game has its own characters and unique storyline all in one part.
