Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'N' is a game with 500 levels, they are separated into 100 episodes. What is the name of the first level in the first episode?

Answer: The Motherlode

The first episode is episode zero. Globular Dynamics is the name of level one for episode 34.
2. One of the great things about version 1.4 is the ability to make levels and actually play them! To get to the editing screen, which button must you press?

Answer: None of these

There are four different buttons you can press: , | ` and ~. The 'N' level maker is called Ned. Nothing will happen if you press any of the buttons in the question (E, Alt and F2)!
3. There are many enemies in 'N'. Which of these is not an enemy you will have to face?

Answer: Electric drone

The full list is as follows: gauss turret, homing launcher, mine, floor guard, thwump, zap drone, laser drone, chain-gun drone and time. For a person that only lives for 1.5 minutes, he has quite a lot enemies.
4. Zap drones are one of the many enemies you face. They come in three types: normal, radar and radial. The first two appear early on, the last appears very late in the game and often there is only one of them because they are so powerful!

Answer: False

There are only two types of zap drone, normal and radar. Radar zap drones will home onto you if they see you. Normal zap drones just glide around the screen bumping into walls without a care in the world!
5. One of the types of user made levels are DDA levels, these can take anywhere from a hour to a month. What does DDA stand for?

Answer: Don't do anything

These types of maps require no input from the user, who can sit back and watch the ninja hurtle through the level, propelled by launchpads, thwumps, and many other forms of propulsion. The best DDAs require a lot of time to make, since the ninja must avoid enemies and traps. The true challenge of creating a DDA is to make the ninja barely miss various traps and enemies.
6. The first version of 'N', version 1.00 was released on the first of March 2004. The second version (1.01) was released four days later. When was version 1.4 released?

Answer: 15th May 2005

This is a list of the different versions release dates:
Version 1.4 - 15th May 2005.
Version 1.3c - 2nd July 2004.
Version 1.2 - 25th April 2004.
Version 1.05 - 28th March 2004.
Version 1.03 - 17th March 2004.
Version 1.01 - 5th March 2004.
Version 1.00 - 1st March 2004.
7. One of the less dangerous enemies in 'N' is the gauss turret. What do they fire?

Answer: Depleted uranium

"The bad news - They fire depleted uranium at super-sonic speeds.
The good news - They can't move, and their targeting software is obsolete."
These guys are pretty easy to avoid in open areas; but if you're in a tunnel with one, say your prayers!
8. Say I do an episode. First level - I spend 42 seconds on it and collect 24 pieces of gold. Second level - I spend 38 seconds on it and collect 11 pieces of gold. Third level - I spend 51 seconds on it and collect 29 pieces of gold. Fourth level - I spend 73 seconds on it and collect 33 pieces of gold. How much time do I finish the episode with?

Answer: Need more information.

You need the information concerning the fifth and final level. Each piece of gold adds two seconds to your time; you would start the level with 90 seconds, you can do nearly all levels with this; it's the levels after that you need the gold!
9. Which company created 'N'?

Answer: Metanet Software

Metanet Software was founded in 2001 by Raigan Burns and Mare Sheppard. 'N' received the Audience Choice award at the 2005 IGF awards, and the Audience Sparky at the 2006 Slamdance Guerilla Game-Maker Competition.
10. What version of Ned is installed in version 1.4?

Answer: 1.1

Ned is the level editor embedded in 'N', it provides a straightforward, functional way to create your own levels for 'N'. 'N' users have created quite a few custom levels, available for download on 'NUMA', the 'N User Map Archive'.
