Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these moves will affect a Shedinja?

Answer: Fire Fang

Shedinja has the ability 'Wonder Guard', which means only moves that are 'super effective' will do anything. As Shedinja is a Bug/Ghost type, the following types will affect it:

Fire
Flying
Ghost
Dark
Rock

Status effectors, like Toxic, and weather moves, like Sandstorm, will also affect it.
2. Round 1: Empoleon vs Steelix. Which of these moves will cause the most damage?

Answer: Grass Knot

As Steelix is Steel/Ground type, water moves will do the most damage in a normal situation. However, Water Sport does not actually do any damage. But, as Steelix are incredibly heavy, Grass Knot will deal just as incredible damage.
Drill Peck will do virtually no damage, as Steelix have impossibly high base Defense, and Flash Cannon wont do much, as Steel on Steel isn't very effective.
3. Round 2: Delcatty vs Mismagius. Your Delcatty does NOT have Cute Charm. Which of these moves will work best against Mismagius?

Answer: None of them

If a Delcatty doesn't have Cute Charm, it therefore means that it DOES have the ability Normalize, which means all of the moves it has are now the Normal type. This is a good thing sometimes, because it means that your Delcatty gets STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) for each move, but they will NOT effect Ghost types! It can be considered more of a curse than a gift...
4. Which of these moves can a Milotic NOT have?

Answer: Dragon Dance

Surprisingly, Milotic isn't able to learn Dragon Dance. It is the only water type in the Dragon egg group unable to learn it. Dragon Pulse can be easily taught into him from a TM, while he learns Twister. DragonBreath can be bred into him from a Bagon.
5. Can a Miltank using Brick Break affect a Sableye?

Answer: Yes

Some Miltank have the ability Scrappy, which negates a Ghost type's immunities to Normal and Fighting type moves. This therefore means that all Fighting and Normal type moves will affect almost every Ghost type Pokemon, just like Foresight or Odor Sleuth. The only exception to this is Shedinja, because Wonder Guard is still in effect.

The only other Pokemon with the ability Scrappy is Kangaskhan.
6. Your opponent switches out a male Luxray to counter your Gyarados. It doesn't intimidate you. Which of these Pokemon would be best to switch to?

Answer: Nidoqueen

Nidoqueen is the best choice, as she is always female. As the Luxray doesn't have Intimidate, it means that it DOES have Rivalry, which powers up against Pokemon of the same gender. It also weakens the host Pokemon if the opponent is of the opposite gender.

As Nidoqueen are always female, they will always weaken a male Pokemon with Rivalry. Nidoking and Nidoqueen can also have Rivalry, however.
7. Which of these Pokemon is it completely safe to use an Electric move on?

Answer: none of them

Jolteon has the ability Volt Absorb, which means that Electric type moves (except Thunder Wave) will heal it instead of killing it. Electivire has the ability Motor Drive, which means that an Electric move (Including Thunder Wave) will raise its speed by one stage.

Gliscor may be a Flying type, but it is also Ground, and as that is immune to Electric moves, it takes priority over the Flying type, and therefore makes Gliscor immune to Electric type moves.
8. Round 3: A Rampardos goes to use Earthquake on a Shedinja. Will it do anything?

Answer: Yes

Rampardos has the ability Mold Breaker, which instantly cancels out any abilities that interfere with its attacks in any way. This includes Wonder Guard as well, so poor old Shedinja is now completely defenseless!

The only other Pokemon to have Mold Breaker is Pinsir (and Cranidos, or course).
9. How many types are 'not very effective' against an Empoleon?

Answer: 11

These types are:

Water
Normal
Steel
Dragon
Dark
Rock
Bug
Psychic
Ghost
Ice
Flying

Empoleon is a Water/Steel type, and has one of the most resistances of all Pokemon. Poison is not in this list because it is an Immunity, not a resistance.
10. Which of these Pokemon has the highest base Attack?

Answer: Metagross

Metagross has an amazing 135 base Attack, meaning it will max out at 405. Dragonite and Tyranitar are just behind, with 134 base Attack, maxing out at 404. Machamp has 130 base Attack, maxing out at 394.

Maxing out any stat is extremely difficult. First, your Pokemon needs maximum IVs in that particular stat, and then you need to EV train it to the maximum. It's highly unlikely that you'll just randomly find a Pokemon with maximum IVs in any stat, so generally, you need to breed for good IVs.
11. After using the move Gastro Acid on a Gengar, which of these moves will now affect it?

Answer: Earthquake

Gastro Acid is a move that cancels out the opponent's ability, much like Mold Breaker. As Gengar has the ability Levitate, protecting it from Ground moves, Gastro Acid will stop this, and allow Earthquake to affect it! Brick Break and Body Slam still wont affect, however, as Gengar's Ghost type has not been changed.

Very few Pokemon can actually learn Gastro Acid, one of which being the infamous Shuckle!
12. Which of these moves is it NOT possible for a Mew to have?

Answer: Scratch

Although Mew has the ability to learn every move, he cannot breed, so he can't have egg moves! This means he cannot have Scratch, as there is no TM or tutor for it, nor does he learn it naturally. You can get a Mew with Faint Attack from a Nintendo event. Softboiled can be tutored into him via "FireRed", "LeafGreen" or "Emerald", and he learns Aura Sphere at Lv.100.

There is only one pokemon that can have NEARLY every more, and it's not Mew...
13. How many Pokemon in the game have names ending with 'eon'? (Accurate to "Pokemon Diamond/Pearl")

Answer: 12

They are all the Eevee evolutions: Jolteon, Flareon, Vaporeon, Espeon, Umbreon, Glaceon and Leafeon. There are others, however...

Charmeleon, Kecleon, Empoleon, Finneon and Lumineon.

Latios and Latias could also technically be counted in this, as they are 'Eon' Pokemon in the Pokedex, but their names do not end with 'eon' so they therefore do not qualify.
14. Which of these Pokemon cannot learn the move Zen Headbutt (by any means necessary)?

Answer: Umbreon

Umbreon simply can't learn Zen Headbutt, no matter what you try! The only Psychic moves he can have are Psychic itself, Dream Eater, and Hidden Power Psychic.

Munchlax can have Zen Headbutt as an egg move from breeding with a Slowbro, Crobat can have it as an egg move as well, from a Noctowl or a Xatu this time. Medicham, however, needs a move tutor on Platinum to be able to have Zen Headbutt. Of course, Crobat and Munchlax can also learn it in this way, too.
15. Surf, Ice Beam, Calm Mind, Rest Which of the following Pokemon can NOT have this moveset?

Answer: Starmie

Shockingly, Starmie is unable to learn Calm Mind! It can learn everything else, but not Calm Mind!

All the others can, with the addition of Slowbro being abl;e to have Slack Off instead of Rest, and Lugia could have Recover instead.
