"Wii Sports Resort" - Island Flyover Quiz

After watching my (very frustrated) husband play 'Island Flyover' on the 'Wii Sports Resort' game, I just had to write a quiz about it. I have used location names that are the same in both NTSC and PAL versions.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The general idea of 'Island Flyover' is to fly a small plane around an island whilst visiting certain areas in order to collect 'i targets' and pop balloons. What is the name of the main island where the game is played?

Answer: Wuhu Island

All 'Wii Sports Resort' games are based on and around Wuhu Island with the exception of golf, which is played on the Wedge Island golf course. There are also other (smaller) islands around Wuhu Island but the majority of 'Island Flyover' locations are on Wuhu Island.
2. Most 'i-targets' have several balloons nearby hinting at the location of the target. How many of these 'i-targets' does a player need to collect to complete the 'Island Flyover' game?

Answer: 80

Most 'i-targets' can be found on Wuhu Island. A great majority of them can be found in and around the town, a few on Wedge Island and some out on the ocean. There are even a couple of mobile 'i-targets'.

The idea is to pop the balloons close to the 'i-target' so that the player can tell which ones have been collected. As the timer on the game only lasts for 5 minutes, a player needs to have several goes at collecting all 'i-targets'. If all the balloons near an 'i-target' are popped in a previous round, they change colour for the next round therefore allowing the player to easily identify the 'i-targets' already collected.
3. Like most console games, all the buttons on the Wii-mote have different functions. In the game of 'Island Flyover', what will happen to your plane if you press the 'B' button?

Answer: Your plane will stall

Stalling the plane may seem useless but it actually helps when trying to get into hard-to-reach places such as down the opening of the volcano.

To give your plane a boost of speed, the Wii-mote needs to be pushed forward quickly towards the (television) screen. The 'A' button fires bullets and pressing the '1' button will release a flare - this is useful when trying to find 'Miguel's Guide Plane'. Miguel will release a flare in response and a player can chase after him to get the 'i-target' that follows him around the island. The D-pad can be used to change camera angle. Buttons on the nunchuck controller can also be used for the same functions as the Wii-mote.
4. As with other 'Wii Sports Resort' games, 'Island Flyover' allows a player to earn stamps by completing certain tasks. Which of the following four stamps can be earned playing 'Island Flyover'?

Answer: Balloonatic

A player earns the 'Balloonatic' stamp after popping all white balloons at all times of day (day, evening and night).

'Friends in High Places' can be earned in the skydiving game and involves and player taking photos of 29 Mii characters before joining them in a final skydiving formation. 'In Your Face' can be earned in Table Tennis by deliberately hitting an opponent in the face with the ball (quite funny to see happen!) and 'Secret Strike' can be earned in bowling. I know how to get this one but I'm not gonna tell you...
5. As well as collecting 'i-targets', popping balloons and earning stamps, a player can also unlock different game functions (both useful and not-at-all useful). Which of the following is NOT 'unlockable' in the 'Island Flyover' game?

Answer: Flash Flare

The unlockables (in order) are:
-Balloons - allows a player to shoot balloons (using the 'A' button);
-Evening Flight - allows a player to fly in the evening and release flares ('1' button);
-Double Popper - the plane will shoot from both wings, instead of just one;
-Night Flight - allows a player to fly at night;
-Night Lightning - the island will now be lit up in the evening and at night (by street lighting, etc);
-Two-Seater Plane - this plane is easier to control in some of the trickier locations of the game;
-Whale Shark Design - the player's Mii's face will now be shown on the side of the blimp as it flies around the island;
-Home Away From Home - will open up a surprise on Private Island.
I made up Flash Flare!
6. Which of the following animal-based 'i-target' locations does NOT exist in the 'Island Flyover' game?

Answer: Dog Swamp

Camel Rock, Crab Rock and Duckling Lake all exist in the 'Island Flyover' game. There are several other animal-based names in the NTSC version of the 'Island Flyover' but they have different names in the PAL version.
Unfortunately, Dog Swamp doesn't exist within the game (but it does exist in as a suburb in Perth, Western Australia!).
7. 'Wii Sports Resort' golf is not played on the main island like the rest of the game's sports and activities. This golf course is also used in 'Island Flyover' as a location for some of the 'i-targets'. What is the name of the island on which the 'Wii Sports Resort' golf course is situated?

Answer: Wedge Island

Wedge Island sits slightly south of Wuhu Island and is where a player will find the golf course and several 'i-targets'. It takes about two and a half minutes to fly there from the closest point on Wuhu Island and is very frustrating to keep flying to if you don't manage to locate all 'i-targets' or pop all balloons in one round of the 'Island Flyover' game.
8. What is the name of the 'Island Flyover' 'i-target' location with a similar name to the usual Nintendo 'princess'?

Answer: The Queen Peach

The Queen Peach is a large cruise liner (ship) docked south of the main town on Wuhu Island. According to some internet sites I researched, The Queen Peach is a tribute to the QE2. The Wii version certainly does resemble the actual QE2 which would seem to suggest some truth in the rumour...
9. Situated over a hotel, which 'Island Flyover' 'i-target' location shares its name with a favourite location of golfers?

Answer: The Nineteenth Hole Hotel

The Nineteenth Hole Hotel can be found in the centre of Wedge Island. A large golf club on the roof of the hotel makes it easy for players to find when they are looking for this location during the game.
10. With all 'Island Flyover' 'i-targets' collected all 'unlockable' items are unlocked. What is the final 'unlockable' item?

Answer: The player's Mii gets their very own house

After collecting all 'i-targets' the last 'unlockable' - 'Home Away From Home' - is unlocked. Flying over Private Island will show a small cottage with a flag flying from the roof. Closer inspection reveals the face of the Mii who completed the 'Island Flyover' challenge.
