Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Patty Redflagg really loves red. She has completely altered this island country's flag from its original colors of black, green, and gold. Which country's flag is it?

Answer: Jamaica

Jamaica's previous flag did contain red as it was a British holding and had the Union Jack contained within it. However, the new flag was adopted in 1962 with the Pan-African colors to represent the majority black population of the island.
2. This Middle Eastern country's flag contains an Arabic inscription and is usually the colors green and white. However, now we have red and light red. Which country is it?

Answer: Saudi Arabia

The inscription on the flag reads that of the Shahada, one of the five pillars of Islam. It declares one's belief in one God and in his prophet. It reads: "There is no god but God. Muhammad is the messenger of God." The green of this flag represents Islam, so changing the color to red would ultimately change the meaning of the flag itself.
3. This South American country's flag normally contains no red, but white and blue with a golden sun. In which country would you find it?

Answer: Uruguay

One of Uruguay's earliest flags did contain red, but most of the later flags after the early 1800s contained only white, blue, and sometimes the sun figure (known as the Sun of May).
4. You have to travel to Africa to see this flag's real colors of light blue, white and black. Where would you see this flag?

Answer: Botswana

The flag of Botswana doesn't make use of the Pan-African colors like many African flags. However, the colors do have meaning, especially the light blue, which represents the life-giving rain Botswana relies on.
5. The flag of this country comes from Europe and is generally sky blue and white. If the colors were their normal selves, which country would this flag be from?

Answer: Greece

The Greek flag contains a cross representing Eastern Orthodoxy. The nine stripes are said to represent various things: the nine syllables of the Greek phrase "freedom or death", the nine letters of the Greek word for "freedom", the nine muses of Greek mythology.
6. Here we have a country's flag from Asia. The four colors that have been painted red are orange, green, white, and blue. Which country's flag has been changed?

Answer: India

The spinning wheel in the center of the Indian flag represents self-reliance. The flag must be made of a special fabric according to Indian law. Previous incarnations of the Indian flag certainly contained red as the British Union Jack was found on them.
7. This Scandinavian country's flag contained only blue and white. There was no red in it until Patty Redflagg got her hands on it. Which one is it?

Answer: Finland

Earlier Finnish flags contained red in the center of the Nordic cross, and one even had a red field. Norway, Denmark, and Iceland all contain red, but Sweden joins Finland in containing no red.
8. There is normally no red in this Central American country's flag, but instead blue and white. Which country's flag is it?

Answer: Honduras

Many Central and South American countries utilize blue and white in their flags. Here, the two stripes of blue represent the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
9. When not painted red, this country's flag is generally dark green and white. Where would you most likely find this flag?

Answer: Pakistan

Pakistan's flag is known as the Flag of the Crescent and Star. The dark green represents the Muslim majority, while the white stripe represents other religious minorities.
10. We end with another island country. Patty Redflagg has decided to paint this flag red when normally its colors are white, green, and orange. Which country is it?

Answer: Cyprus

The Cypriot flag contains two symbols of peace, the color white and olive branches. Copper-orange is used to color the island of Cyprus in the flag as copper is a valuable resource that can be found on the island.
