Albuquerque hosts the world's largest hot air balloon festival in October. Over 500 balloons participate in this 9-day event.

Oktoberfest lasts 16-18 days and draws around 6 million visitors from around the world. In Munich, the festival is known as "Wiesn", the local name for the locale of the event, the open air fairgrounds at Theresienwiese.

Fred Fisher was a Campbelltown farmer that disappeared in 1826. Four months later, his ghost was sighted pointing to a paddock where his body was eventually found. The festival began in 1956 and is one of the longest running community events in Australia.

Fremantle is a port city, serving the state capital of Perth. The Blues 'n' Roots Festival is an annual event that began in 2004 to celebrate those music styles.

Beltane is the Celtic festival of fire and fertility, marking the start of summer. Celebrations are held throughout Scotland, Wales and the Isle of Man, with Edinburgh hosting one of the largest gatherings. A traditional feature is the burning of a large Wicker Man at sunset.

Tag der Befreiung (Day of Liberation) commemorates the 8 May 1945 defeat of Nazi Germany, and is mainly celebrated by nations that were attacked or conquered by that nation. Some former Soviet republics celebrate May 9th as Victory Day, as it was May 9th in Moscow when the formal surrender was signed in Germany. East Berlin existed between 1949 and 1990 and was the capital of East Germany, the zone of Soviet occupation of the partitioned Germany. Neither May 8th or May 9th were celebrated as national holidays in the old West Germany.
