The lynx (Lynx lynx) is the national animal in Romania and Serbia. The lynx is a feline and comprises a few different species including the bobcat, Canadian, Iberian and Eurasian lynx.

Romania is a country in Europe which falls in between Central, Southeastern and Eastern Europe. Romania's closest neighbours are Serbia, Moldova, Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ukraine. The lynx is not the only national animal. It also counts the auroch (extinct wild bovine) and the Dacian Draco which is a standard taken up by the ancient Dacian people. It has the head of a dragon with wolf jaws and multiple metal tongues.

Papua New Guinea is an island country in the Oceania region in the Pacific Ocean. The country occupies the eastern half of the island of New Guinea. It achieved independence from Australia in 1949.

The dugong (Dugong dugon) is a gentle marine mammal, of the order Sirenia. Included in this order is the manatee. The dugong is a herbivore which feeds on sea grass. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has listed the dugong as being vulnerable to extinction. It is not the only national animal of Papua New Guinea which includes the Raggiana bird-of-paradise too.

The dolphin is the national animal of Greece, representing the Greek god Delphinus. "Delphinus" is, strangely, the Latin name for dolphin. The national bird of Greece is the phoenix. It is one of many countries to include mythical beasts as their national animals.

The resplendent quetzal (Pharomachrus mocinno) is a beautifully colourful bird which is found from southern Mexico through to western Panama. Mythically, it was considered divine by the Mesoamerican people, primarily associated with the snake god Quetzalcoatl. The resplendent quetzal has Near Threatened status by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.

Guatemala is a Central American country, surrounded by Mexico to the west and north and by Honduras, El Salvador and Belize to the east.

The other two junglefowl in the genus Gallus are the grey junglefowl (Gallus sonneratii) and green junglefowl (Gallus varius).
