Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does FIAT stand for?

Answer: Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino

I drive a FIAT Cinquecento - its an 899cc hatchback car which is a 1995 registration. I have never had any reliability problems with it, in fact it has been an excellent car. So for all of you who answered Fix It Again Tony - mine's as reliable as it could be!
2. True or False - the first FIAT car had four and a half horsepower.

Answer: False

It actually had three and a half horses! It was a rear engined machine which had a 700cc capacity. It hit the roads (albeit slowly) in 1899.
3. The rear engined FIAT 600 replaced the popular 500 in 1955 as FIAT's flagship small car. This model featured a 633cc engine, but how many horsepower did it produce?

Answer: 21 bhp

The FIAT 500 which the 600 replaced was actually so popular that FIAT continued production of until March 1973. Such was the quality of production of both the 500 and the 600 that you can find these small FIAT in almost every city in Europe.
4. True or False: The 1967 FIAT Dino Coupe was powered by a Lamborghini engine.

Answer: False

That particular car was actually powered by a 1987cc V6 Ferrari designed engine!
5. What car finally replaced the 500 when FIAT finally stopped production of Italy's favourite car?

Answer: FIAT 126

The FIAT 126 was the cheapest car available in Britain from it's introduction in 1973 until 1989 albeit rebadged as the 126 BIS.
6. Which FIAT won the 1989 European Car of the year award?

Answer: FIAT Tipo

The Tipo's bodywork featured galvanised body panels and a plastic tailgate to prevent corrosion. Not as crazy as it might sound as the Tipo proved a huge success for FIAT bringing the company into the 1990s free from reliability and rust problems which had plagued certain models in the 80s.
7. Which 90s FIAT was designed by FIAT in conjunction with the famed design house of Pininfarina?

Answer: Coupe

The second generation Coupes featured a five cylinder 220bhp turbocharged engine which did 0-100 kmh in a time of 6.5 seconds! It could also top 240 kmh!
8. To select reverse on the FIAT Bravo, which of the following might prove useful?

Answer: Push the gearstick down

The FIAT Bravo is one of my personal favourite FIATs. It is a three door hatchback which (along with its sister the Brava) replaced the popular Ritmo in 1995. If you are buying one, get the 1.8 hgt 16v. It did the 0-100 kmh in 8.6 seconds!
9. FIAT collaborated with two other European car companies to produce the MPV, the Ulysse. But which two companies were they?

Answer: Peugeot and Citroen

The Ulysse did not prove to be a huge success for FIAT. However it did manage to get the jump on its collaborators by beating the Peugeot 807 and the Citroen Synergie in the sales figures in Europe.
10. OK then - my Cinquecento was replaced by the Seicento much to my disappointment! My own model is the basic 899cc Cinq - the cheapest at the time but you do get what you pay for so which of the following is the 1995 Cinquecento basic missing?

Answer: Rev counter

No rev counter I'm afraid. All the rest it has got. The Cinquecento is a quality car and I would reccommend it to anyone looking for an affordable car. My own one has a full bodykit including side skirts, front and rear bumpers, a tailgate spoiler and extended arches. I have Stil Auto alloys, a twin 3 inch centre exit exhaust and all the badges, locks and rear wiper have been removed and holes smoothed. Thanks for taking this quiz - hope you enjoyed it!
