1. Gerald R. Ford, Jr. was born on July 14, 1913, under a different name than the one most of us came to know. What was his first given name?

Answer: Leslie Lynch King, Jr.

His parents separated 2 weeks after his birth and were divorced just months later. His mother, Dorothy King, moved with her son to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she met and married Gerald R. Ford in 1916. They then began calling her son Gerald R. Ford, Jr., but his name was not legally changed until December, 1935.
2. Which college did Gerald Ford graduate from in 1935 where he played center on the football team and was MVP in 1934?

Answer: University of Michigan

He played for the Wolverines and, upon graduation from University of Michigan, was hired as an assistant football and boxing coach at Yale University.
3. What two professional National Football League teams offered contracts to Gerald Ford upon his graduation from college?

Answer: Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers

Though he turned both contracts down, he said he always wondered how well he would have done if he would have given it a try! He is said to have been the most athletic President as he swam every day while in the White House and also played golf, tennis, and skied.

Answer: Speaker of the House

He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1948, and he served in the House from 1949 to 1973. He was re-elected 12 times! He became House Leader in 1965.

He was appointed Vice President after Spiro Agnew resigned as Vice President due to scandal in 1973. As we all know, he became President upon the resignation of President Nixon after the Watergate scandal.

Answer: Jimmy Carter

Thus, Gerald Ford was never elected President. He and Jimmy Carter later became very close friends.

Answer: two

Both assassination attempts were made by women and only days apart in 1975. Both were in California.
8. Gerald Ford narrowly escaped death during a typhoon in the South Pacific during World War II while serving in the Navy on which light aircraft carrier?

Answer: USS Monterey

He volunteered for the Naval reserves in 1942. The Monterey was battered heavily in the typhoon and was consequently removed from the Navy fleet.

Answer: Elizabeth (Betty) Bloomer Warren

First Lady Betty Ford was diagnosed with breast cancer and had surgery in 1974. They had 3 sons and 1 daughter. The youngest son, Steve, became an actor and regularly appeared on "The Young and the Restless" soap opera.
10. Upon leaving the White House, he and Betty moved into their new home in what California city?

Answer: Rancho Mirage
