Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is it when a reporter includes something in a story (print journalism, not broadcast journalism) about a person that is untrue and could possibly ruin a person's reputation?

Answer: Libel

If there is a part in a newspaper story that is false and likely to ruin one's reputation, that is libel. Spoken libel is called slander.
2. What is yellow journalism?

Answer: Sensationalism

It is sensationalistic news. Let me explain it: yellow journalism is when someone makes up news to attract readers. This first started in 1898 between Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst, who were owners of two New York newspapers (and they were also rivals).
3. What major U.S. newspaper was the most involved in Watergate?

Answer: The Washington Post

It was the Washington Post. The head of the newspaper was criticized by President Nixon (her name is Katherine Graham and she was the publisher of the paper).
4. Which one of these is NOT a news bureau?

Answer: Boston Times News Service

There is no such thing as the Boston Times News Service. I made that up.
5. What was the title of the book that Washington Post reporters (back in the 1970s) Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward wrote?

Answer: All the President's Men

They both wrote the book, 'All the President's Men.' There is a movie based on it starring Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford.
