Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What does S.U.N.Y. stand for?

Answer: State University of New York

The S.U.N.Y. school system is run by the State of New York and this acronym encompasses sixty-four campuses in New York. They are distinctly individual schools but all share this common bond.
2. Which S.U.N.Y. school is on Lake Ontario and is NW of Syracuse, New York?

Answer: S.U.N.Y. Oswego

This college is off Route 104 and is just west of the town of Oswego. There is a high amount of snowfall as there is a large amount of lake effect snow that comes off of Lake Ontario.
3. Which of the following cities is nearest to S.U.N.Y. Fredonia?

Answer: Buffalo

Buffalo is an hour drive by car, Rochester is about 2-3 hours away, and New York City is 7-9 hours away. Many people think of New York City when they think of New York State, but that is only a tiny portion of it.
4. Which S.U.N.Y. school is supposedly halfway between Albany and New York City?

Answer: S.U.N.Y. New Paltz

It is nearer to Connecticut than either city. New Paltz is south of Woodstock, where the famous concert was held (actually in Bethel). On the other side of the Hudson River is Poughkeepsie, which is close to both the Connecticut and Massachusetts borders.
5. Which of the following is NOT a S.U.N.Y. school?

Answer: S.U.N.Y. Niagara

There are schools around the Niagara Falls area, such as the S.U.N.Y. Empire State College, S.U.N.Y. at Buffalo and S.U.N.Y. at Ferdonia, but there is no "S.U.N.Y. Niagra."
6. Which of these schools is on Long Island?

Answer: S.U.N.Y. Stony Brook

This college is in Suffolk county. Stony Brook is about halfway down Long Island on Route 495. There is an airport on Long Island called The Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip and is about 16 miles from the campus.
7. There are also a chain of C.U.N.Y. schools.

Answer: True

C.U.N.Y. stands for City University of New York and are a set of schools that service the New York City area, by itself.
8. Which S.U.N.Y School did the New York Knicks used to call home to their practice facilities?

Answer: S.U.N.Y. Purchase

In 2001, the Knicks moved from their long time home in S.U.N.Y. Purchase, to a complex in Greenburgh, New York. This is located in Westchester, New York. Yonkers (my home town) is also in Westchester.
9. I have to ask one question about my Alma matter, S.U.N.Y. Albany. What are the names of our mascots?

Answer: Great Danes

We were the Albany Great Danes! I went to school there from 1989-1993 and sports were not a subject that was talked about very often. There was little barking from the Danes then.
10. S.U.N.Y. New Paltz is near Huguenot Street, which holds which claim to fame?

Answer: The Oldest Street in America

Huguenot Street is a well-preserved 17th century colonial style road with houses that show what colonial life looked like. I made up the battle of Huguenot as well as the other two choices :)
