Answer: Thomas A. Hendricks

Thomas A. Hendricks (1819-1885) was a member of the US House of Representatives and the US Senate from Indiana who voted against the Constitutional Amendments to abolish slavery and grant suffrage to former slaves. Also a Governor of Indiana, he first ran for Vice President on the unsuccessful ticket with Democratic candidate Samuel Tilden in 1876.

In 1884, he was elected as the 21st Vice President when Grover Cleveland was elected President. He only served from March 4, 1885 until his death on November 25,1885.

Answer: Charles G. Dawes

Charles G. Dawes (1865-1951), banker, and military general, served in World War I and later drafted the Dawes Plan for WWI reparations, for which he co-won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1925. The running mate of Coolidge in 1924, he was elected the 30th Vice President of the United States, serving throughout Coolidge's term to 1929.

He was then appointed by President Herbert Hoover to be Ambassador to the United Kingdom (1929-1931).

Although he hoped to be nominated for a full term in the 1852 elections, his Whig Party did not nominate him.

He then served as FDR's Vice President from March 4, 1933 to January 20, 1941. When he challenged Roosevelt for the Presidential nomination in 1940 and lost, he was succeeded as Vice President by Henry Wallace.
