Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As of January 2003 there are four subway/RT lines. They are:

Answer: The Yonge/University/Spadina, Bloor/Danforth, Sheppard and Scarborough RT lines

The last line to open was the Sheppard line, in November 2002
2. The Bloor/Danforth subway line runs north/south

Answer: False

This line runs east/west
3. On the Yonge/University/Spadina line there are four stations at which one can switch to another subway line.

Answer: True

The stations (as listed on the Yonge/University/Spadina line) are Bloor Street, St. George, Spadina, and Sheppard.
4. The Sheppard Subway has how many stations on it (as of January 2003)?

Answer: Five

These stations are called Sheppard, Bayview, Bessarion, Leslie and Don Mills.
5. If you wanted to take a ride on the Scarbrough RT, which Bloor/Danforth station could you transfer from?

Answer: Kennedy Station

It's the only transfer point from the subway to the RT line.
6. Which Bloor/Danforth station would you go to if you wanted to attend "Taste of the Danforth" in the Greek part of town?

Answer: Pape Station

This takes place in mid August, and is lots of fun.
7. If you wanted to go to the Royal York Hotel, which Yonge/University/Spadina station would you go to?

Answer: Union

Union Station is at the very bottom of the system - from here, all trains go north - up Yonge Street on one side and the other up University and then Spadina.
8. What is the closest subway station to Roy Thomson Hall?

Answer: St. Andrew

Roy Thompson Hall is famous for its acoustics and unusual design.
9. Which station would you go to if you wanted to visit High Park?

Answer: High Park

10. Which subway station on the Bloor/Danforth line has an unused station underneath it?

Answer: Bay

The original Yonge line ran between Eglinton Station in the north and Union Station in the south. The extra Bay Street Station was expected to be part of the Yonge line, before it was decided to go up University instead of Bay Street. It is now used occassionally to film movies and commercials. Both levels of St. George Station are working stations, and Dundas West and Keele are both single stations.
11. Which Avenue has three subway/RT stations named for it, as in _______, _______ West, and _______ East?

Answer: Lawrence

Several streets have multiple stations on them, but they are not all named the same. Eglinton Avenue has two stations named for it (Eglinton and Eglintion West), St. Clair Avenue has both St. Clair and St. Clair West, and Dundas Street has a Dundas Station and a Dundas West Station, on two different lines.
12. What is the northernmost station on the Yonge side on the Yonge/University/Spadina line?

Answer: Finch Station

Downsview Station is the most northerly on the other side of the line.
13. If you wanted to go directly to the Eaton Centre, your best bet would be to get off the subway at either:

Answer: Dundas or Queen Stations

Either one would get you there, although you have to walk through the old Eaton's store from Dundas Station. King is too far south, College too far north, and Osgoode, although on Queen Street too, is too far west.
14. If you wanted to go to the Canadian National Exhibition, you could take a streetcar from Bathurst Station to Exhibition Place.

Answer: True

The CNE runs for the two weeks prior to labour day. There are several ways of getting there by TTC, or you can take the GO Train or drive (but just TRY to find parking!).
15. Several of the subways stations are not underground at all, and some are open to the elements. Which station on the Yonge branch of the Yonge/University/Spadina line is one of these, decorated in an olive green tile?

Answer: Rosedale Station

Rosedale is the station directly north of Bloor and Yonge, so at rush hour you can have a very hot or chilly wait for room on a train.
16. How many subway stations can you access from the PATH network (as of January 2003)?

Answer: Five

They are St. Andrew, Union, King, Queen, and Dundas Stations. The PATH network is a series of underground tunnels/shopping areas that wend their way underneath Toronto's tallest buildings, meaning that you can get from one area to another without ever going outside.
17. What is the closest subway station to Toronto General Hospital?

Answer: Queen's Park

It's also where the Ontario Legislature Buildings are.
18. If you wanted to visit Casa Loma, which subway station would you walk from?

Answer: Dupont Station

It's a fairly long walk up a hill to get there.
19. If you wanted to see Maple Leaf Gardens, which station would you go to?

Answer: College

The Toronto Maple Leafs used to play there, but now they are at the Air Canada Centre, which can be reached by going to Union Station and walking south on Bay Street.
20. What is the westernmost station on the Bloor/Danforth line?

Answer: Kipling
