1. What is the highest ranking medal in the United States Navy?

Answer: Medal of Honor

The Navy and Marine Corps' Medal of Honor is our country's oldest continuously awarded decoration. It was created for enlisted men by Secretary of the Navy Gideon Welles on 16 December 1861.
2. What is worn on the Air Medal to denote the number of additional awards?

Answer: Strike/Flight Device

The device is simply an arabic number(1,2,3, etc.) The medal is awarded to servicemembers who show expert knowledge and ability while flying. Awards can recognize a single act or a length of service.
3. If a Sailor is found guilty through captain's mast (NJP, or Non-Judicial Punishment), when does the new 3-year period begin for him to receive a Good Conduct Medal?

Answer: The day after the offense occured

The NGCM is the Navy's 3rd oldest medal, and its requirements have changed several time since it was first awarded in 1869. The most recent change was in 1996 when the length of good conduct was lowered from 4 years to 3 years.
