Subject: The Official Share a Story Thread

Posted by: Terry
Date: Aug 24 12

If you are directed here by a FunTrivia challenge, please reply ONLY in this thread for the challenge. Only posts made here will count towards your challenge!

[ And no, you will be DIRECTED to come here. Posting here without having an already issued challenge will not result in anything! Still, you can post a story if you feel like it anyway ;) ]

If sent here, the title says it all. Your challenge is to share a story.

Tell us, briefly, about something funny or interesting that has happened to you recently. Or something sad. Or something scary. Or something exciting. Something funny or strange you saw?

If nothing funny or interesting or scary or exciting has happened, then write us a poem. Or a song. Or tell us a joke.

Or just tell us what you did today. Did all you accomplish was to brush your teeth? Did you fail to even do that? Do share...

Feeling grumpy today? Tell us what irritates you. What TV show can't you stand? What TV show are you watching that you like?

So go ahead, we're listening. The only rules are that you be polite and follow our very simple rules up above.

Tell us a story...

Poor little mourning dove sitting outside my window looks like she has eggs to lay, but it's cold and snowing.

I am on a brief holiday in Vienna. I had never been to Austria before, which is one reason I came. Today did a cruise on the Danube and the Danube Canal. I was meant to do it yesterday, but that is another story.

On a recent trip to Belgium, I spent a few days in Bruges. One of the places I visited was the Cathedral of Our Lady (“Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk”). In the basement Treasure Vault, there are a lot of beautiful embroidered vestments, and jewel-encrusted reliquaries purporting to contain holy relics, like a splinter of wood from the True Cross, a bone or lock of hair of a saint, or a phial of the Holy Virgin’s milk. There was a long queue of people waiting their turn to venerate the miraculous relics.
Coming out of the vault, I saw a true miracle: white marble that has come alive.
It is an exquisite Mother and Child by Michelangelo, the only one of his works to leave Italy in his lifetime. The Christ child is not a baby, but a little boy about three years old, and he stands between his seated mother’s knees, the way a mother would hold a lively three-year-old who may dash off at any moment. Her delicate features are full of expression and the little boy has a mischievous look – if I am to drop any venerating curtseys, it will be to Michelangelo.
