I watched the 2018 remake of "Suspiria" and was very disappointed. It seemed to take itself too seriously, bordering on pretentious.

Tilda Swinton played two characters and I don't know why. One part was as a male. Right off the bat I was thinking, "Something's off with him." (I didn't know a woman was playing the part) Eventually I figured out it was a female, and it proved to just be a distraction.

It was way too long. There were scenes that were entirely pointless that made the movie drag. So many dancing scenes as well, probably too many.

To call it a horror movie is laughable. The movie has little ground to stand on if it calls itself horror. Near the end of the movie there is some gore, but even then, nothing scary.

I had high hopes but this 152 minute-long artsy movie just wasn't for me.

I went and saw the new "Child's Play". Mark Hamill plays Chucky this time around. He's obviously a very talented voice actor, but no one could replace Brad Dourif in my mind.

That being said, the movie was pretty fun with some good lines in there. Don't expect to get scared, just try to enjoy the high-tech killer doll!

I have just seen two films...Yesterday and Fisherman's Friends. Both enjoyable with feel good factor. Lightens the heart and makes you feel joyful.

Maquia: great story and theme, but it should have been a 13-episode series. There were several plotlines, a lot of worldbuilding, a number of characters, and many years passed; five-six hours would have served the story better than two.

Apollo 11: a must-see. I really appreciated the style: instead of a narrator and modern-day interviews mixed with older film, the entire documentary was made from archival footage and recordings, tracing the story of the moon landings from before lift-off to after the astronauts' return.

A Silent Voice: Great animation, but I never quite connected with it.

Hysteria: very funny. I already knew about this strange area of historical "medicine" and it was hilarious seeing it played out.

"Mystic Pizza"

I think it was the film debut of Julia Roberts.
Nice movie.

Stand By Me.

There's no real way of calculating how many times I've watched this movie, but it's definitely more than 50, and probably a lot higher than that. Still, I haven't seen it in a while, so when I noticed that it was on TV last night, I couldn't help myself. An old friend of mine (from over 30 years ago) and I used to appropriate many quotes from this film as we both would immediately understand what the other meant. For instance, if one proposed a stupid or reckless venture, the other would say, "Teddy, it's a hundred feet." Nobody else ever knew what the heck we were talking about!

"He's a dog, he's definitely a dog."
"He can't be dog, he wears a hat and drives a car."

Hehehe! Also; "There's no way Mighty Mouse could beat up Superman. Mighty Mouse is a cartoon, and Superman is a real guy. No way a cartoon could beat up a real guy."
"Oh, yeah.......would be a good fight, though."

"My father stormed the beach at Normandy!"

Don't they also talk about being mildly attracted to Bugs Bunny when he used to pull his ears back, put on false eyelashes, and pretend to be a girl, generally while performing in an opera? Or do I have the wrong movie?

"Oh Brunhilda, you're so wuvwy!" -- Elmer

"Yes, I know it, I can't help it!" -- Bugs

"Oh Brunhilda, be my wuv!" -- Elmer

"Best Foot Forward" (1943). I was online window-shopping and accidentally bought a digital copy of it. By the time I figured out how to cancel it, I decided to keep it. I've seen it a few times before.

"Arrival"

Wow. Just.....wow. Kind of a slow burner in parts, but the big reveal was epic (and I'm not talking about when you first get to see the aliens). I very much identified with the whole premise of interspecies communication which this movie is based around; through my work as a dog trainer, I'm continually amazed by the narrow minded view that all species think and communicate in the same way as humans. The amount of people who will just yell "sit!" at a dog and call it dumb for not sitting without attempting to teach it what 'sit' means first.....that's the attitude the army and various governments had towards the alien visitors in 'Arrival'. Only linguist Louise succeeds in making a connection, with mind-blowing results.

I waited and waited and waited for "Arrival" to finally come to HBO. I watched it last week, and I liked it so much, I watched it again... two more times, back-to-back-to-back. That ending was a killer, though.

And then, I saw "Bohemian Rhapsody" on the list, so I watched that -- twice. Back-to-back.

"Roger, there's only room in this band for one hysterical queen."

Blackkklansman. My oldest son loves movies and we take turns as a family picking a movie that we sit and watch together. This was his pick. I'd seen it in the theatres already and think it's really well made, scary and funny in parts although a little long.

Rocketman. Really well done and had me welling up in parts. I think he has been very brave to put it all out there. Much more honest than Bohemian Rhapsody.

I watched a movie last night I had recently recorded. It was called, The Nght Train to Lisbon. It was very interesting and unusual. It was about a classics teacher in Switzerland who saves a girl from jumping off a bridge on the way to work. Hermes up with her coat and and in the pocket of her coat he finds a book which he starts to read and the story fascinates him. He just jumps ship from his everyday life and goes to Lisbon where he tries to find the books author......it was very atmospheric and historic.
Jeremy Irons was the lead actor who was very easy on the eye.

I finally got around to watching "Gerald's Game". I have to admit it was pretty great. It really got to me, hit me hard.
It's not overly frightening, in the traditional sense, but I was very entertained and found it even touching.
