I think the Salad Spinner is a great invention because it doesn't take batteries or electricity, it's small and stores easily, it's a quick clean-up, and it actually WORKS! Another is disposable dishes and flatware. Reply #1. Dec 14 11, 11:51 AM |

Nuclear weapons were a good and bad invention. Good because they saved lives in WWII and most likely prevented WWIII from happening. Bad because every lunatic on the planet wants them and most will eventually have them. Reply #12. May 17 12, 7:47 AM |

In the past 50 years we've seen more technological advancement than that of hundreds of years by comparison. It's fun to relate to my 25-year-old daughter everything that has changed since her mom was a child. I work as a private caregiver for two elderly clients, both 90 years old. One of them is the widow of a retired Navy commander (dementia patient due to strokes). I've started scanning old photos and documents of this family's history, at the request of one of the adult children. I'm in absolute AWE over the historic value of some of these photos and documents! I'm a middle-aged woman who can't get enough stories from my revered elders who lived through our most exciting century. By the way, Thomas Edison and Henry Ford had summer homes here in Ft. Myers, FL. The Edison estates/museum is well worth the visit....even though I think Nikolai Tesla was well ahead of Edison. Reply #13. May 17 12, 4:52 PM |

While I appreciate such inventions as the internet, the automobile, air conditioning, and others mentioned in previous posts, I'm grateful to the person who came up with the idea of the bed and mattress combo (beats sleeping on a pile of pine boughs!), and to the person who figured out how to blend tea to make a refreshing drink. The treatment of drinking water and wastewater has improved our quality of life and lifespan a great deal. We take them for granted now, but just over a century ago, waterborne diseases could spread so quickly! Reply #20. Jun 22 12, 5:51 PM |
