Subject: What Song am I?

Posted by: Mariamir
Date: Nov 29 12

Following the same rules as the other "What ____ am I" threads, the point of this thread is that you ask yes or no questions until someone guesses the correct song. That same person then chooses the next song.

Don't be sorry! The band is the 5th Dimension. Three word title...

OK, that would be the "Wedding Bell Blues" then...

Thanks... Staying in the period. This song was a number 1 hit in the US. It contains the word "happy", which originally was meant to be "funky" but the record label did not like that.

"You Make Me So Very Happy" by Blood, Sweat and Tears?

No, "happy" does not appear in the title of the song, just in the lyrics. But the band was (mainly) American. Two word band name, two word title.

That's interesting about the record label changing "funky". Is this song older?

Is the singer female?

No, the lead singer of the band is male. Actually all 4 members of the band were male, 3 are still alive.

And three band members were American, one was English.

Was the song a hit or more obscure?

As I said, #1 in the US. In the recording, before the song actually starts, there is a bit of banter about #7.

Sorry. Is the band The Rascals? The Doors? The Association? I keep running all the clues in my head but everything I come up with doesn't quite fit.

No, none of them. The members of this band were chosen.

The name of the band sounds like some creatures.

Daydream Believer by The Monkees

Two-word title, two-word band: check
#1 song: check
American band: check
Released in late sixties: check
Sounds like creatures: check
Contains the word “happy”: oof… thought I had it.

This all applies to “Sugar, Sugar” by The Archies, except the band name and of course “happy.”

Not Chicago… couldn’t find a matching song for the Four Tops… The Animals got me excited, but nothing there… The Yardbirds… The Eagles are too late… The Byrds… thought I had it with “Happy Together” by The Turtles, alas, it’s not in the title…

I want you to know that I am trying…
It’s going to be some obvious song and I’ll feel silly. I can feel it!

Daydream Believer is correct! The word "funky" in the original lyrics was changed to "happy".

Good job, then, Jen. Your turn now.

Oh good! Thank you! Now you know how funky I can be... haha, silly changes.

This song came out in 1968. The band is English and the album it's from is on Rolling Stones "500 Greatest Albums of All Time".
