Subject: Contest: Scavengers!

Posted by: WesleyCrusher
Date: Sep 08 23

Seekers of Knowledge,

the Sentinels are looking for quests to further instruct those who wish to follow their ways. To be exact – at least one hundred of them. These quests shall be in the form of scavenger hunt challenges. As this huge number is too much for any one person, there shall herewith be a proclamation of a

PUBLIC COMPETITION

We need: 100 (or more) Scavenger Hunts requiring to play exactly 20 (twenty) quizzes each.

Each such hunt shall have a theme which can easily be illustrated on a single badge image without requiring color (this may exclude some things like a rainbow or certain flags). It can be a thing (a car, a horse, a house…), a place (Paris, Africa, Stonehenge), an activity (running, playing) or a concept (love, energy,…). Themes already covered in scavengers can be reused, but they must be an entirely fresh list of quizzes.

No more than six quizzes may be from the same category, no more than four from the same author. Please try to keep your difficulties mostly at average and tough, although we have room for some easier and/or harder lists.

A submission consists of:

1) An unpublished(!) quiz list of between 24 and 30 quizzes. If you include more than 24, we will use the first 24 if possible, but if one should not work, we’d have spares. (We recommend to add at least one extra)
2) A challenge start and completion text. The overarching theme of the series is related to exploring, so you can use that.
3) Optionally, a link to a public domain or free license (Pixabay) image. We cannot use Creative Commons: Attribution for this one. The image can be in any format and color, although clipart might work better than photos.

You may submit any number of entries. Your list can include quizzes you are writing specifically for this purpose. They need not be online at the time of judging, but they must be reasonably complete.

Send your entry by site message to FTContests. Make sure to include the ID of your quiz list along with the text parts.

Prizes: Your scavenger being used on the site and 4 prestige if at least one of yours is chosen. Should we use multiples, each additional one is an extra one prestige.

Close of entries: September 30.

This competition is open to Gold Members only because of the required submission format (free members can’t add other members’ quizzes to lists). However, if you wish to use your trial membership for this purpose, you can create your list(s) in that time and we can judge it afterwards.

Love seems to be an easy one to do a second installment for. (Or a third, fourth...). Love, Trivially, is one of the shorter lists and it's a really broad theme.

(I'm aware we'll need a way to easily view completed lists. On my... well... list :) )

Thanks Wes,

It's more that I've picked some topics I know nothing about but are rated average and have a lot of plays so obviously other people know them.

I am putting together a list with a sweet theme :-). I just need a few more quizzes (plus the intro and outro) for it to be complete.

I've got an idea but it involves searching for quizzes that start with a certain word and it's very difficult to find a good quality quiz with the search feature as it is. Is there any alternative way?

I find using a well-known search engine, and including FunTrivia in the search often produces reasonable results.

I've sent my list to the link provided, Wesley - but it wouldn't let me send it on the nice table I'd set all the quiz titles on :(

I sent in my submission last evening. However, I may have misread the instructions. I supplied the ID number of my quiz list, the challenge start and completion text, and a link to a Pixabay image that I thought might be appropriate.

I did not, however, supply the actual titles of the quizzes in my quiz list. Was I supposed to do that? If so, I can send in an amended submission.

Wes, please clarify. Is it twenty quizzes or twenty-four?

Thanks.

Wesley said above between 24-30 quizzes if that's any help?

So I sent it 25 quizzes, with an overall introduction and conclusion for the entire list, plus a link to a pixar image.

With the quizzes, I included each author, the name of each quiz, and the reference number of each quiz.

Where Wesley says "requiring to play exactly 20 (twenty) quizzes each." I think that is what will ultimately be presented to people when they begin to play it as a challenge.

Each scavenger group will consist of 20 quizzes - BUT what we send in to start the initial process can be a "quiz list of between 24 and 30 quizzes". That is to allow for spares should any quiz not be accepted for the challenge.

I think.

With mine I sent the link where I can edit it, I'm assuming that has the ID in it? If not, I suspect I may have done it wrong.

I'll likely come up with one or two more ideas this month, so I'll do the way suggested on those submissions.

Re: 20 or 24,

They want 24-30 submitted, final list will be 24, and the challenge will ask people to score XXX on at least 20 of the 24 like many of the other challenges, if I'm reading it correctly.

That's it I agree - I forgot about giving players a bit of choice :)

Shadowmyst has it right.

The challenge will display as "Play 20 of these 24". By giving us a few extras above 24, we can slightly adjust the 24 if needed to make the challenge work (e.g. if two players submit partially overlapping lists, we can use the spares to make them more distinct)

Maybe the leftover quizzes could be combined as a Scavenger Patchwork Quilt :)

Thanks everybody.

As usual, I'm having difficulty. Can't find quizzes on a few of the things I wanted. Note to self: Write quizzes on "Banacek" and the life of Bobby Kennedy...along with all the other quizzes I need to write. /sigh/
