I just ran into the usual problem after submitting a word from my current bingo card. The word (locket) shows as one of the recent submission (in Literature); I used it as one of the possible answers, and did not change the spelling. Now I'm wondering what the issue may be! The word was not used in the question or correct answer. Reply #102. Apr 18 24, 2:13 PM |

Thanks, my bad! I completely disregarded the "correct answer" detail. Now I'll see how I can reframe it so that I get credit for the question. Reply #103. Apr 18 24, 2:37 PM |

I never learn, or so it seems :D! I changed the spelling of "Odessa" in my most recent question in order to adopt the Ukrainian spelling - and obviously my Bingo card still shows the clickable link. Can someone please bump the question back to me, so that I can fix (it's in Geography)? I promise I'll try to be more careful in the future! Reply #104. Apr 21 24, 9:53 AM |

Finally seen an odd word repeated: Zambezi. I had it on my last bingo card, and another question was submitted using it today. I know there will be some overlap to the words on the card, but that's a specific one to see again. Reply #106. Apr 23 24, 3:29 PM |

There's definitely going to be repeats, especially amongst different players. It will be rare for your own words to repeat too often. It's also probably more obvious to notice Zambezi than, say, "table." There's also the factor that authors might choose terms that they feel as though they can tackle, so some words might get used more often, while others that are a bit more difficult will get passed on. Geographical locations offer a lot of variance: you could write about plants, animals, land features, cultures, etc. Reply #107. Apr 23 24, 4:31 PM |

One other thing to note is that there will be refreshes of the word list over time, so theoretically the repeats should be fewer and further between. But there is no accounting for random chance. ;) Reply #108. Apr 23 24, 6:17 PM |

The frenzied writing of single questions is coming through. My set of the New Question Game today had five or six questions from the same author - all in different categories, but presumably created at about the same time. Reply #109. Apr 24 24, 8:45 PM |

I had the same set and I think they actually pre-date Bingo! Haha! Reply #110. Apr 24 24, 8:56 PM |

Can somebody help me please? I submitted a question that used my Bingo word (mesmerizing), but it hasn't given me credit for it. Possibly because I used the UK English spelling "mesmerising?" I think that's a little bit unreasonable. Reply #111. Apr 24 24, 9:20 PM |

Unfortunately, the system checks the word verbatim, and there is no way to allow for alternative spellings. The spellings used in the Bingo game are all American spellings, so they are ultimately the ones that have to be used. Reply #112. Apr 24 24, 9:25 PM |

You could try sending a correction note on it asking the editor to amend the spelling. This might resolve it if you still have the appropriate bingo card. Reply #113. Apr 25 24, 3:47 AM |

Trident, I wasn't aware of that. I will remember. Thanks! Have tried what Rossian suggested. If I have to do a new question, so be it. Reply #114. Apr 25 24, 4:19 AM |

I think you can send corrections on submitted questions, and you should do that so the editor can reject the question and let you change the spelling then resubmit. It has to be acceptable at the time of submission or resubmission, so an editor fixing it up will not be any use. I have never actually done this, so am not sure it works. You may need to wait until it has been accepted - then I am sure you can send a correction, using the link to My Contributions: All Accepted Submissions and clicking the corrections link at the end of the question. Then you can submit a correction asking to have it sent back so you can fix the spelling and resubmit. Reply #115. Apr 25 24, 4:24 AM |

I'm glad it's sorted out. There is a final check before you click submit which shows you the exact word that needs to be in the question or correct answer. Having spelled something incorrectly and accidentally myself, I have learned the lesson to check very carefully now. Reply #118. Apr 25 24, 7:07 AM |
