Clint Benedict played for the Ottawa Senators in the 1917-18 season. He was nicknamed "Praying Benny" by the press and fans, as he was the first goaltender to habitually fall to his knees on the ice, and use his shin pads to block a goal. Because this was technically foul play at that time, he would fold his hands and pray whilst on his knees. Eventually, NHL rules were changed to allow goaltenders to use their pads to block the puck.

Bill Gadsby is an inductee of the Hall of Fame, but he was honoured in 1970.

Shortly after Georges death, the then manager of the Canadiens, Leo Dandurand, was quoted as saying "Georges Vezina speaks no English and has 22 children, including three sets of triplets, and they were all born in the space of nine years." Georges kept a clean sheet throughout the first half of that last match, only agreeing to seek medical attention when he began coughing up blood during the halftime break. He died in March 1926, back in his home town of Chicoutimi.

George Hainsworth was the new goaltender for the Montreal Canadiens, so it was perhaps fitting that he won the Vezina Trophy in honour of his predecessor. Hainsworth won the trophy three seasons running, from 1927-29.
