Felix Potvin was born in Anjou, Quebec. He played most of his junior hockey for the Chicoutimi Sagueeneens of the QMJHL, before being drafted into the NHL.

He recorded two consecutive 3-0 shutouts against the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks on January 21 and 22 respectively. The third time he accomplished it was between March 29-31, 2001. He recorded a 3-0 victory over Columbus and then continued with a 4-0 victory over Colorado.

The final time he accomplished the feat was during the 2001 playoffs, against the Colorado Avalanche. He recorded two consecutive 1-0 shutouts against the Colorado Avalanche in the western conference semi-finals.

In the 1993-94 season, Potvin and the Maple Leafs faced the Chicago Blackhawks. The series took six games for the Leafs to win. Toronto then beat San Jose in the semi-finals, but was eventually defeated by the Vancouver Canucks, who would go on to lose in the Stanley Cup final.
