Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Mary and Joseph flee with Baby Jesus to Egypt

An angel appeared to Joseph in a dream and warned him that King Herod would try to kill Baby Jesus. The angel told Joseph to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt and stay there until Herod died.
2. Jesus talks with the Elders in the Temple

When Jesus was twelve years old He traveled with Joseph and Mary to Jerusalem for the Festival of Passover. When they realized Jesus wasn't with them on their way home, they found Him in the Temple talking with some very smart men. Everyone who heard Jesus was amazed at His knowledge and understanding. Mary told Jesus that she and Joseph were very worried and looked for Him for three days. Jesus said they didn't have to worry because He was in His father's house just as He was meant to be. Jesus returned home with them and was obedient to his "earthly" parents.
3. Baptism of Jesus

John the Baptist lived in the wilderness in a place called Judea. He taught the people about the Kingdom of God and urged them to confess their sins and be cleansed in the Jordan River. One day when Jesus came from Galilee He asked John to baptize Him. John was confused and thought himself unworthy to baptize the Son of God. Jesus assured John that it was meant to be.

After He was baptized the Spirit came down from Heaven looking like a dove and God said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." (Matt 3:17 NIV)
4. The devil tempts Jesus in the desert

After Jesus was baptized, the Holy Spirit led Him into wilderness. He prayed and didn't eat for 40 days and nights. During that time the devil appeared to Him and tempted Jesus by saying if He was really the Son of God he should change stones into bread and eat. Jesus answered by saying that man lives by the Word of God not bread.

Then the devil led Him to a holy city and told Jesus to jump off the highest point, because surely, if He were the Son of God, angels would come and save Him. Jesus told the devil not to try to test the Lord.

Finally, the devil led Him to a place and said if Jesus would renounce God, he (the devil) would give Him treasures and palaces. Jesus firmly told the devil "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only." (Matt 4:10 NIV)
5. Jesus calls His first disciples to follow Him

When Jesus was walking near the Sea of Galilee He asked Simon (Peter) and his brother Andrew, who were fishermen, to become his disciples. "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will send you out to fish for people" (Matt 4:19). By this, Jesus meant that they would gather men together by spreading God's Word. Later on, James and John joined them.

They continued through Galilee, with Jesus teaching and healing. As the word spread, more people began to follow Jesus.
6. Jesus calms the storm

Jesus was asleep in a boat when a terrible storm rose up and waves crashed over the boat. The disciples woke Jesus and told Him they were afraid of drowning. Jesus told them not to be afraid, but to have faith. Jesus shouted to the waves to be still and the wind died down.

The men on the boat were amazed and wondered, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!" (Matt 8: 27 NIV)
7. Jesus feeds the five thousand

One day, when Jesus was preaching near the Sea of Galilee, the crowd grew very big and it was getting late. The disciples thought Jesus should send the crowd away to buy food in a nearby town. Jesus said there was no need; the disciples could feed them.

He told the disciples to bring Him the five loaves of bread and two fish that they had. Jesus took the food and looked to heaven and gave thanks. The disciples distributed the bread and fish to all the people and there was even food left over!
8. Jesus walks on water

After Jesus fed all the people bread and fish, He went to a mountainside alone to pray. He told the disciples to wait in a boat on the lake. The wind and rain moved the boat farther and farther away from land. After many hours Jesus appeared and walked on the stormy waters out to the boat.

At first the disciples were frightened and thought He was a ghost, but Jesus reassured them. When Jesus got to the boat the wind died down and the disciples said: "Truly you are the Son of God." (Matt 14: 33 NIV)
9. Lazarus raised from the dead

Jesus was friends with Lazarus and his sisters Mary and Martha. The sisters sent a message to Jesus that Lazarus was sick. He told the disciples that Lazarus had fallen asleep and that He would wake him. The disciples thought if Lazarus was sleeping he would rest and get better.

They didn't realize that Jesus meant eternal sleep. Jesus explained that Lazarus was dead but He would raise him from the dead. Even though Jesus knew what He would do, He was so moved when He saw how sad everyone was that He Himself cried. Jesus went to the tomb and shouted for Lazarus to come out, which he did, and all the people saw it happen!
10. The first Palm Sunday

When Jesus traveled to Jerusalem the people greeted him by laying their coats and branches from the palm trees on the ground for Him as He rode a donkey. They shouted "Hosanna [Praise!] to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!" (Matt 21:9 NIV).

He was recognized by the people as a king, and this day was so important it was one of a few events mentioned in all four Gospels (Mathew, Mark, Luke and John). This marks the beginning of Holy Week in Western Christianity.

In only a few short days Jesus would be betrayed, arrested, tried and crucified. Holy Saturday marks the end of Holy Week and on Easter we celebrate the Resurrection!
