Answer: Prestwick

The oldest men's golf major is the Open Championship, sometimes referred to a the British Open. The first edition took place in 1860, at Prestwick Golf Club in Ayrshire, Scotland, with Willie Park Sr. winning. Prestwick would host the first twelve Opens, and 24 in all, the last one coming in 1925.
2. Which state of the USA was NOT the venue for the men's US Open at any time durng the first 125 years: 1895 to 2020?

Answer: Hawaii

Hawaii traditonally hosts two PGA events each January, the tournament of Champions and the Hawaiian Open, but has never played host to the US Open. The other three states included in the options each hosted the US Open exactly once between 1895 and 2003 - Newport Country club, Rhode Island, was the venue for the very first championship in 1895; Chambers Bay, Washington, hosted the 2015 event, and Erin Hills, Wisconsin, was the venue in 2017.
3. What is the name of the 18th hole at Augusta National?

Answer: Holly

Augusta National, in Georgia, has hosted The Masters since 1934. All of the holes on the course have botanical names. "Holly" is the name of the 465 yard par 4 18th hole. "Camelia" is the 10th hole, "Golden Bell" is the 12th and "Chinese Fir" is the 14th.
4. Which one of these international team competitions was held for the first time in 1990?

Answer: Solheim Cup

The Solheim Cup is a team competition between professional women golfers from Europe and the USA. The first edition took place in 1990 at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Florida. The event is normally held every two years, with venues alternating between the USA and Europe.
5. Arnold Palmer won seven majors over the course of his career, but which is the only one of the four that he never managed to capture?

Answer: PGA Championship

Arnold Palmer won The Masters four times, in 1958, 1960, 1962 and 1964; he twice won the British Open, in 1961 and 1962; and he managed a single victory in the US Open, in 1960. The one major that eluded him was the PGA Championship, his best finishes being runner-up in 1964, 1968 and 1970.
6. In 2003, Annika Sorenstam became the first woman to take part in a men's PGA event since 1945, when she teed up in which tournament?

Annika Sorenstam, from Sweden, won ten women's majors between 1995 and 2006. In 2003, she was invited to take part in the Colonial Tournament, a men's PGA event held at Fort Worth, Texas. She missed the cut after finishing in 96th place after the first two rounds.

The previous occasion in which a woman took part in a men's event came in 1945 when Babe Zaharias qualified for the Los Angeles Open.

The Ryder Cup was first held in 1927, and was originally a match between male professional golfers of the USA and Great Britain. Irish golfers joined the British players in 1973, then, in 1979, with the USA having dominated the fixture for years, continental European golfers were included to boost the opposition's chances.

The "home" venues for the Europeans continued to be held on UK soil until 1997, when Valderrama, in southern Spain, was selected. Seve Ballesteros was captain of the European team that year as they defeated the Americans 14.5-13.5

Answer: European Masters (Swiss Open)

The Swiss Open was first held in 1905 and moved to its permanent home of Crans-sur-Sierre in 1939. European Masters was added to the tournament title in 1983 with the Swiss Open part of the name totally dropped in 1992.

"The Postage Stamp" is the name of the 8th hole at Royal Troon in Ayrshire. At 123 yards, it is the shortest hole of any course on the Open rota. In 1973, veteran golfer Gene Sarazen famously holed-in-one there, a feat repeated by Dennis Edlund in 1997 and Ernie Els in 2004.

Answer: Canada Cup

The World Cup of Golf conists of two-man teams representing their countries. The first edition took place in Montreal in 1953, at the instigation of Canadian industrialist John Jay Hopkins, and was called the Canada Cup. The name was changed to the World Cup of golf in 1967.
