Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many teams went into COVID-19 isolation going into Leg 10 of the race as the course sent the competition to Colombia?

Answer: Five

As teams left Türkiye at the start of Leg 10, five total pairs (as well as Beau, still waiting out his isolation in Athens, Greece) tested positive for COVID-19, forcing them to wait until they were cleared by the race's medical team before they could return to the race course. This meant that while Kathy and Chase and Stuart and Glennon, both sidelined for the same reason in earlier legs, would rejoin the remaining teams in Leg 10, Tiffany and Cynthia, Fliss and Tottie, Jodie and Claire, Kelly and Georgia, and Lauren and Steph all had to remain in quarantine.

The five remaining teams and the two returning teams left for Bogotá at the start of Leg 10, leaving the Radison Blu Resort & Spa in Çesme, Türkiye.
2. In Leg 10, teams were given phones and told to take photographs of which of these throughout Bogotá?

Answer: Graffiti

Teams flew ten thousand and six hundred kilometres from Türkiye to Colombia, leaving the airport in Bogotá in the order upon which they arrived at the previous Pit Stop and, upon arriving, they made their way by taxi to Parque de los Periodistas to find a clue and a phone. From here, teams needed to head out on foot to La Candelaria, a nearby neighbourhood, to take three selfies with notable graffiti art pieces made by Guache in Calle del Embudo. Provided both team members could be in the shot, a full photo of the piece was taken, and the tag was displayed, they'd get their next clue.
3. All teams racing through Bogotá in Leg 10 completed which side of the Detour?

Answer: 'Spoke'

If teams got all of their selfies approved they would be handed a Detour clue sending them to one of two spots in Bogotá. In 'Sparkle', teams would have needed to head to the Emerald District and sort through a collection of stones to sort between real and fake emeralds. All teams, however, headed to Parque La Concordia and completed 'Spoke', which had them playing bike polo against the locals to score one goal against a defender without letting their feet touch the ground. Completing this task would allow them to head to Club De Tejo La 76, and their next task.
4. Teams completing the Speed Bump in Bogotá had to purchase more of which of these from a local market?

Answer: Herbs

Reaching Club De Tejo La 76, teams needed to play the national game of tejo, tossing discs until they hit a gunpowder-loaded target. If one team member could do this, they could make their way to the Samper Mendoza Market to purchase and cart around seven kilos of local herbs for a traditional remedy. Teams had to order in verbal Spanish to let their work count. Tougher, leading teams also had to wait until 7pm for the market to open, losing valuable head starts.

To keep things fair coming out of the COVID-19 quarantine, both Kathy and Chase and Stuart and Glennon needed to complete a Speed Bump before the end of the leg. In both cases, they had to collect an additional three kilos of herbs for a deep sleep remedy from the market before they could continue on.
5. Which team was eliminated at the Pit Stop in Leg 10 at Parque Bicentenario, Bogotá?

Answer: Kathy and Chase

Once teams finished their shopping trip, they could rush along to the next Pit Stop at Parque Bicentenario in the middle of Bogotá's city center where one team would be eliminated. Though they left the market in second place, Angel and Frankie slid ahead of Flick and Gabby on a footrace to the Pit Stop, winning their fourth leg in a row and their sixth of the race.

As two teams were marred late in the leg by the need to complete a Speed Bump, the back of the pack was a close fight between Stuart and Glennon and Kathy and Chase with the latter being last to hit the mat.

It meant they were eliminated from the race.
6. After spending a leg of the race in Bogotá, Colombia, teams flew to Medellín. There, teams needed to climb to the top of El Peñól de Guatapé, but what was this landmark?

Answer: A rock

With five teams still in COVID-19 isolation in Türkiye, only six teams ripped open their clues at the start of Leg 11 and were told to fly four hundred and sixteen miles to the city of Medellín. Teams raced out of José María Córdova International Airport in the order they arrived at the previous Pit Stop, hopped into taxis, and made their way to El Peñól de Guatapé.

It was there, at this massive stone landmark, that teams needed to ascend seven hundred steps to the top to find their next clue overlooking Guatapé.
7. Which team did not complete the 'Bunch' Detour, making a flower arrangement in Colombia in Leg 11?

Answer: Flick and Gabby

At the top of El Peñól de Guatapé, teams opened a Detour clue. The first of these options was 'Bunch', and for this, teams had to descend the rock and join in the activities of the local flower festival. For this, they had to cut fresh flowers and mount them to a wooden frame to recreate a traditional arrangement, known as a silleta, worn on a person's back.

The flower master would give their next clue when it was completed. Angel and Frankie, Heath and Toni, and Stuart and Glennon went with this challenge.
8. In the 'Brew' Detour task in Leg 11, teams had to find lettered coffee beans to spell out what five-letter word?

Answer: AROMA

Teams choosing the 'Brew' task engaged with one of Colombia's most famous exports: coffee. For this challenge, they received a nine-kilogram sack of coffee beans and needed to dump it out and sift through it to find five beans each etched with letters.

When they found all five, they could spell out the word A-R-O-M-A and trade the beans for their next clue. This task was selected by Flick and Gabby, Pako and Mori, and Chelsea and Jamus.
9. In Medellín, team members completing Leg 11's Road Block had to indulge in local delicacies made with which meat?

Answer: Pork

If teams could complete their Detour tasks they could dive into a Road Block and choose one member who was 'ready to get served'. In this challenge, the selected teammate had to enjoy a meal in a park in Comuna 13 back in the city of Medellín. The catch was that Pako, Frankie, Glennon, Toni, Flick, and Jamus didn't know until they arrived was that they would need to eat two full plate of local delicacies, the first being a salad with pig eyeballs, and the second being a plate with pig intestines and tongues. Both meals needed to be eaten fully for teams to get their next clue.
10. Which team was last to check in at the Pit Stop mat overlooking Medellín at the end of Leg 11?

Answer: Heath and Toni

After dining on fine cuisine, teams headed out into the evening and searched Comuna 13's highest reaches for their next Pit Stop where Scott would check them in and give them their placement. Pako and Mori slid into first place after the Detour, sustaining their first place position heading to the Pit Stop mat. It allowed them to take the winning streak off Angel and Frankie, giving them their second win of the race and a $5,000 prize from Andoo.

Because Stuart and Glennon circumvented the rules of the 'Bunch' Detour, they took a fifteen minute penalty, dropping to third. Chelsea and Jamus opted to take a time penalty after night fell at the 'Brew' Detour. They checked in at the Pit Stop in fourth place and endured a ten minute time penalty, dropping to fifth.

All of this meant that Heath and Toni checked into the Pit Stop in last place. They were, however, spared from elimination on this occasion.
11. The twelfth leg of the race took teams to what Colombian city?

Answer: Cartagena

Six teams departed from the city of Medellín at the start of Leg 12 and flew approximately six hundred kilometres northeast to the city of Cartagena to continue their race, releasing from Rafael Núñez International Airport and hopping into cabs. Because of a mandatory COVID-19 quarantine, five teams would be sitting this leg out, as they had for the previous two in Colombia. Teams had to direct their drivers and make their way to La Perla Negra to find their next clue.
12. In Leg 12, teams prepared which of these foods, delivering them to local youngsters in Colombia?

Answer: Arepas

Teams took their cabs to the playa at La Boquilla to find La Perla Negra and, parking on the beach, they opened clues telling them to join the locals in giving back to the community. For this challenge, teams needed to work to make ten arepas, observing local cooks on the beachfront and preparing the traditional food for local kids.

Then, when their arepas were approved, teams could deliver them on foot to the children waiting at La Boquilla Community Centre to get their next clue from a charity worker.
13. In Parque San Diego in Leg 12, teams had to sell which of these to locals?

Answer: Food

Following the arepa task, teams needed to take their cabs back to Cartagena and travel to Parque San Diego. Once they arrived, they needed to mimic the Palenquero people of Colombia and join local fruit sellers throughout Cartagena's Old Town by transporting the goods on their heads. To get their next clue, teams needed to sell the food and make at least 20,000 pesos (just under $7 AUD) from hungry locals, trading the cash for their next task.
14. In Leg 12, teams learned which Colombian dance?

Answer: Salsa

Teams able to sell their fruit to locals were able to open a clue for one last task to wrap up Leg 12, and this one sent them by taxi to Parque de Bolívar. Upon arriving there, teams needed to watch local salsa dancers perform their moves, learn the steps, and perform the two-person routine in-time to the music. If they could perform the dance to the approval of a local coach, then they would get their last clue and head onward to the Pit Stop.
15. Which team was eliminated at the Pit Stop in Leg 12, being last to check in with Beau at this final Colombian stop?

Answer: Stuart and Glennon

Teams completing the salsa received one last clue to finish out Leg 12, and for this one they had to take a taxi to Castillo San Felipe de Barajas atop Hill of San Lázaro and check in at the next Pit Stop, passing through a marked tunnel on their way to Beau, finally back after five legs in COVID-19 quarantine.

Pako and Mori arrived in first, sneaking past at the salsa challenge to win their second leg in a row (and their third overall). Chelsea and Jamus pulled out of last place to beat Stuart and Glennon to the mat. Since the latter also took a penalty for not completing the salsa task, there was no chance of recovery and Stuart and Glennon were eliminated from the race.
