Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I am holding Ad, Kd. My opponent is holding Jh, Jc. The flop is Jd, 10c, 2h. The turn is Ah. How many outs do I have?

Answer: 4

The only way that I can win the hand is if one of the four queens comes out. If an ace comes out, my opponent has a full house.
2. I am holding 2c, 7h. My opponent is holding Ah, Ad. The flop is 2d, 2h, As. The turn is a 7d. How many outs do I have?

Answer: 1

The only card that could give me a winning hand would be the 2s which would give me a four of a kind. Another 7 would give me a better full house, but it still wouldn't beat my opponent.
3. I am holding 4h, 5h. My opponent is holding 10h, Jh. The flop is 10c, 5d, 2h. The turn is a 3h. How many outs do I have?

Answer: 13

The outs are as follows: Ah, As, Ac, Ad, 6h, 6d, 6c, 6s, 5c, 5s, 4d, 4s, 4c. The odds are slightly under 30 percent that I will win the hand.
4. I have 10d, 7s. My opponent has 10h, As. The flop is 10s, 7h, Ah. The turn is a 10c. How many outs do I have?

Answer: 0

There is no possibility for me to win the hand. However, it would be very difficult to fold this hand. You'd need to have a really good read on your opponent. This situation is known as "drawing dead".
5. I have 9c, 9s. My opponent has 9d, 9h. The flop is 2c, 4h, Kc. The turn is a 10c. How many outs do I have?

Answer: 9

This is an odd hand in that we have an equal strength pocket pair. This situation will almost always result in a split pot unless one player has a flush. There are 9 cards that will allow me to get a flush on the river and thus win the hand (Ac, 3c, 4c, 5c, 6c, 7c, 8c, Jc, Qc).
6. I have 6h, Ah. My opponent has 7d, 7s. The flop is 7h, 9h, Jd. The turn is a 5c. How many outs do I have?

Answer: 10

The outs are as follows: 8s, 8c, 8d, 2h, 3h, 4h, 8h, 10h, Qh, Kh. The 5h and Jh are not outs because they would give my opponent a full house.
7. I have 2h, 9d. My opponent has Ac, As. The flop is 2c, 2d, Ah. The turn is a 3s. How many outs do I have?

Answer: 1

This would be a very unfortunate hand to be playing. My opponent already has a very strong full house whereas I only have three of a kind. The only card that would allow me to win would be the 2s which would give me four of a kind.
8. I have 9d, Ks. My opponent has 5c, 4c. The flop is 9c, Kc, Qc. The turn is a 4h. How many outs do I have?

Answer: 4

In this situation I have flopped two pair and my opponent has flopped a flush. I would need to make a full house on the river to win. This can be accomplished with the 9h, 9s, Kh, Kd.
9. I have Qc, Kc. My opponent has Qd, Qh. The flop is 2c, 4c, Jd. The turn is a 7h. How many outs do I have?

Answer: 12

I can win the hand with a king or a club. The outs are as follows: 3c, 5c, 6c, 7c, 8c, 9c, 10c, Jc, Ac, Ks, Kd, Kh.
10. I have 5d, 6s. My opponent has 10h, 10d. The flop is 4h, 7d, 10s. The turn is a Ac. How many outs do I have?

Answer: 8

I have what is known as an outside straight draw. My outs are as follows: 3s, 3c, 3d, 3h, 8s, 8c, 8d, 8h.
11. I have Qs, Qh. My opponent has 10d, 9d. The flop is Jd, Qd, 8d. The turn is a Qc. How many outs do I have?

Answer: 0

Although I have four of a kind queens, my opponent flopped a straight flush. There is no card that can come on the river that can help me win the hand.
12. I have 4h, 4c. My opponent has 5c, 5d. The flop is 6d, 6s, 3h. The turn is a 2d. How many outs do I have?

Answer: 2

I can only win the hand if the 4d or 4s comes on the river. This would give me a full house. I would not win the hand if a 5h or 5s came on the river because it would give my opponent a full house.
13. I have Jh, Qh. My opponent has 3s, 3c. The flop is 9h, 10c, 4d. The turn is a 6h. How many outs do I have?

Answer: 21

Going to the river, the odds are about 42% for me to win the hand. This situation is one of the classic Texas Hold'em showdowns: a low pocket pair versus two suited and connected over cards. For me to win the hand I could pair the jack or queen, make a straight on the river or make a flush on the river. I would need one of the following cards on the river to win the hand: 2h, 3h, 4h, 5h, 7h, 8h, 8d, 8c, 8s, 10h, Jd, Jc, Js, Qd, Qc, Qs, Kh, Kd, Kc, Ks, Ah.
14. I have Ad, As. My opponent has Ah, Ac. The flop is 3c, 6c, Kc. The turn is a 7c. How many outs do I have?

Answer: 0

Since my opponent has an ace high flush, there is no card that could come on the river that would help me win the hand.
15. I have 6h, Qd. My opponent has 3c, 4s. The flop is Kh, Ah, 4d. The turn is a 8c. How many outs do I have?

Answer: 6

Going into the river I have just a high card of queen and my opponent has a pair. On the river I need one of the following cards to win the hand: 6s, 6c, 6d, Qs, Qc, Qh.
