Hans Christian Andersen was born in 1805 and died in 1875. His first fairy tales were published in 1835 and he wrote them until 1872. He also wrote poetry, novels and plays. "The Ugly Duckling" is one of his stories.

Alfred the Great (849 - 899) is the only king in British history who has been called "Great". He became a king at 22 years old and encouraged education and learning as well as made many law reforms.

Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888) is regarded as one of America's first authors to write stories for children. She began writing when she was 16 and her first book was published when she was 22 years old. Her most famous book is "Little Women" written in 1869.

In 1994, he shared the honour of winning the Nobel Peace Prize with two other people for helping to bring peace between Palestine and Israel. Yasir Arafat died in Paris (France) on the 11th of November, 2004.

Roald Amundsen was from Norway and on the 14th of December 1911 his group reached the South Pole. He discovered a route (a passage) around north of Canada between the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. He is thought to have died in 1928 as his aircraft disappeared without a trace while searching for a person who was lost on an Arctic expedition.
8. Fred Astaire was an actor that specialized in doing what thing in his movies?

Fred Astaire was born in 1899 in Nebraska (United States of America); and died in 1987. His real name was Fred Austerlitz. He made many musical movies from 1933 to 1981, and they were seen worldwide. He was nominated and won many awards for his movies from 1941 to 1981.

Aristotle was also a scientist. He lived approximately in the year of 400 BC. He taught that it was important for people to learn by seeing, hearing, tasting, touching and smelling.

Benedict Arnold was born in 1741 and at 14 years old he fought in the French and Indian War. In 1776, he was made a brigadier general. In 1780, he betrayed his country to Britain because he was angry about not being promoted and he needed money.
