Goldilocks took a walk in the woods, where the sun glimmered through the trees and the dark green moss was spongy underneath her feet. She was always careful in case she came across any wild animals in the woods as they could be scary.

Goldilocks was named after her lovely golden hair. The story would not be the same if she was called "Redilocks" or "Blackilocks, or even Brunettilocks". What a mouthful!

The house was empty when Goldilocks found it because the three bears had gone for a walk in the woods. Mummy bear had made breakfast for Daddy bear and Baby bear but it was much too hot to eat.

In the house was a kitchen, and in the middle of the kitchen was a table with three bowls of porridge. Sometimes you need to blow on food to cool it down or else it will burn your mouth. The porridge that Mummy bear made was much, much too hot.

Goldilocks tasted the porridge from Daddy bear's bowl. "This porridge is too hot!" she said. Then she tried the second bowl which belonged to Mummy bear but this was too cold. She finally tasted the porridge in Baby bear's bowl and said "This porridge is just right". She ate every last morsel.

Answer: The chair broke

Goldilocks felt tired after she had eaten the porridge so she found three chairs. Two of the chairs belonged to Daddy and Mummy bear but were much too large. She sat in the third chair which belonged to Baby bear but it broke. Perhaps she ate too much porridge!

Goldilocks went upstairs and found three beds in the bedroom. She tried Daddy bear's bed but it was too hard. She tried Mummy bear's bed but it was too soft. She finally tried Baby bear's bed and said, "This bed is just right". She then went to sleep.

Daddy bear, Mummy bear and Baby bear returned from their walk. The first thing they noticed was Baby bear's porridge had been eaten. Then they saw Baby bear's broken chair. They tiptoed upstairs and baby bear said "Someone's been sleeping in my bed and she's still there!"

Goldilocks quickly woke up when she heard the three bears in the bedroom. She was normally very clean, tidy and polite but was too scared of the bears to stop and say "Hello" or make the bed. She ran as fast as she could, out of the house and out of the woods, until she safely returned to her own home.

It is unclear who actually wrote the book "Goldilocks and the Three Bears", as different versions have been made and passed down from generation to generation. English author and poet, Robert Southey, wrote the book "The Story of the Three Bears" in 1837.

It was loosely based on the story of Goldilocks except it featured an old lady and not a young girl. The story was later changed to include a girl when another English children's author, Joseph Cundall, adapted the story in his own 1850 version called "Treasury of Pleasure Books for Young Children".
