6. How was the Grand Canyon formed?

Answer: carved out by Colorado River and erosion

The Grand Canyon, located in the US state of Arizona, is a true wonder of nature. The Colorado River and other general forces of erosion carved it out over millions of years. The process is ongoing. Over time, water seeps into cracks, freezes, expands, and melts; rocks break off and carry debris to the canyon floor, which is washed away during flash floods; wind also plays a role and trees are scarce and have shallow roots, so soil is easily dislodged. Still, it's the river itself, carrying snow melt from the Rocky Mountains to the sea, which was and is the major factor in creating this national treasure.
