Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Italy, Tilted, Tourist

Answer: The Leaning Tower of Pisa

As you look up and sort of sideways, you'll spot the Leaning Tower in the town of Pisa, Italy. The tower was finished construction in 1372. The tower is surprisingly only 183 feet tall.

The Leaning Tower is not the only leaning tower. New Zealand has the Leaning Tower of Wanaka and the Leaning Tower of Suurhusen in Germany are at least two others that lean.

I went to Pisa and stood with my hand out like I was holding it. Everyone does it! Cute picture!
2. St Louis, Missouri, Curved

Answer: The Arch

When I was younger my family drove to Saint Louis to ride up the Arch. The sights from the top were spectacular. Some people call St. Louis the gateway to the west. The arch is 630 feet tall and was built in 1965. The arch is right on the Mississippi River.
3. Tower, London, Bell

Answer: Big Ben

Big Ben is right in the city of London. The bell tower is 315 feet tall. I remember when I was there way back in the early 80s, the tower was under renovation. They had scaffolding all over the tower. The bell tower was remodeled in 2017 again. Cheerio as they say in London!
4. Paris, Stairs, Gustave

Answer: Eiffel Tower

As you walk around Paris, you can catch a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower. It opened for the public in 1889. It towers above at 984 feet. You can take one of eight elevators to the observation deck to view over the entire town. I've taken the elevator to the top but still want to take the stairs, at least once in my life. I was lucky enough to view this beautiful tower twice and nightly I get to visit the fake Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas at Paris Casino.
5. Seattle, Observation, World's Fair

Answer: The Space Needle

Seattle wanted something spectacular to show the pubic for the 1962 World's Fair and they came up with the most unique landmark. It was a hit and has over a million visitors a year. The tower was built in less than a year. The antenna "Needle" at the top touches 604 feet tall.

The observation deck is at 520 feet. When I visited Seattle I never got a chance to go to the top but I did enjoy the view of the tower from the outskirts of Seattle.
6. Mawenzi, Volcano, Africa

Answer: Mount Kilimanjaro

As a hiker there are a few places you really want to hike to the peak of. Mount Kilimanjaro, in Africa, is one of those bucket list items for me. There are a few different routes to the peak which towers at 19,341 feet above sea level - actually seven different ways. I have met a few people who have peaked this gorgeous mountain and they rave about the beauty of the long trip to the peak. Usually it takes about a week to get to the top, and sometimes a bit longer. You need to adjust to the altitude slowly on a mountain, so tall.

There are three volcanic cones on the mountain. Kibo, Shirt and Mawenzi are these cones. The mountain is dormant and hopefully we will never see this erupt.
7. Toronto, Canada, 1976

Answer: CN Tower

The tower in Toronto is 1,815 feet tall. They started construction in 1973 and it wasn't completed until 1976.

I was in Niagara Falls and was hoping to catch a glimpse of the tower, since it can be seen on a clear day from up to 30 miles away, but I didn't get a view of it.

You can have dinner in the restaurant above or walk around on the Edgewalk. You can also enjoy the tower lit up at night time. Different holidays and events have different colored lights but normally the lights are red and white.
8. Japan, Volcano, 3776 meters

Answer: Mount Fuji

Mount Fuji is the tallest mountain in Japan. Its peak is 12,388 feet above sea level, which is 3,776 meters. Mt Fuji is actually on the island of Honshu. Again, this is another one of the mountains I would love to stand on screaming to the World that "I made it". You only have a few perfect weeks to climb this mountain. The summer from July to September is the best time. They have a few basic rules for hikers climbing: Don't pick up plants, don't pick up stones and no camping on the mountain. As always when hiking, pack out your trash!
9. Las Vegas, Casino, Observation

Answer: The Stratosphere

The casino is on the bottom while the observation deck, restaurant and many rides are over 1,000 feet above. Bob Stupak was the creator of the tower. He used to own the casino and wanted to create something that would really show the world.

You can view Las Vegas in 360 mode from the Top of the World restaurant. It slowly turns showing you all sides of Las Vegas.
10. Dubai, Skyscraper, 2,722 feet tall

Answer: Burj Khalifa

In 2018 this was the tallest skyscraper in the world, measuring 2,722 feet tall. Some people refer to the building as Burj Dubai, but that would give away the answer, so I chose the second name.

The building started construction in 2004 and was completed in 2010. Rumor has it that only one person died while building the skyscraper, due to the incredible safety rules they had in place.
