Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Night of the Living Dead
Answer: Cemetery/Farm House
One of the most famous movies which happened in one night was "Night of the Living Dead". A woman and her brother went to a cemetery, and the man got knocked down by a zombie. The woman ran to a nearby farm house where she met other people who tried to figure out what to do about the increasing number of zombies surrounding the house that night.
The news on television talked about dead people coming back to life and eating people.
2. The Poseidon Adventure
Answer: Ship
People on a cruise ship didn't know they would be hit with a large wave which would turn the ship upside down on New Year's Eve. Gene Hackman and Ernest Borgnine played the men trying to lead victims to safety throughout the night. The only way out was to cut a hole in the bottom of the Poseidon, which was now floating on top of the ocean because the ship was upside down.
A small group of people made it all the way, but some of them died along the way. Poseidon was the Greek god of the ocean and earthquakes.
3. Die Hard
Answer: Skyscraper
Bruce Willis played as a policeman on vacation who visited his wife at an office party when a gang decided to hold them hostage. When his wife saw an angry antagonist shouting, she told a co-worker that she knew her husband was still alive, because John was the only one who could make someone so angry. Everything the antagonists did was planned according to what they expected the police and the FBI to do, but John (Bruce Willis) spoiled their plans.
4. Murder on the Orient Express
Answer: Train
A man was stabbed 12 times, and then the train was trapped in a snow bank, giving the detective plenty of time to question everyone on board the Orient Express to find out what happened. This movie pretty much began the trend of having several famous actors play parts in a murder mystery.
The plot was inspired by the true story of the Lindbergh Kidnapping, but changed the names. The story was what if a bunch of people knew who was behind the kidnapping, and the people rode the train with the villain so they could get revenge against him. Martin Balsam and Anthony Perkins were reunited as an investigator and murder suspect, as they were in "Psycho".
5. Death on the Nile
Answer: Riverboat
A group of people on vacation in Egypt were suspects when a wealthy woman on her honeymoon was found shot in the head overnight. It so happened almost everyone on the river boat had a reason to kill her. Bette Davis played a woman who stole jewels from the dead woman and was suspected of murdering her. Angela Lansbury played a woman who witnessed the murder of a witness, but then she was shot when she tried to tell who did it.
6. A Bucket of Blood
Answer: Coffee house/apartment
A man worked at a coffee house where a lot of beatniks hung around talking about art. He went home to try to make something with clay when he heard a cat meowing inside the wall. He cut into the wall to try to get the cat out, but he accidentally stabbed the cat.
He covered it with clay and brought it to work. Everyone asked him what he called it. He replied, "Dead cat." They thought it was a great work of art, and the man thought everyone knew it was really a dead cat, but they didn't care. Within a few days, which was how long it took to make the movie, he made sculptures of dead people and body parts.
Some of the humorous scenes were inspirations for the later movie "Little Shop of Horrors".
7. The Breakfast Club
Answer: High School
On one morning some students spent detention at the high school. They had been strangers, but eventually became friends and played tricks on the man in charge. Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall were two of the students, as they had been in the previous movie ("Sixteen Candles") by John Hughes.
8. Airport
Answer: Airplane/Airport
One night there was a blizzard at an airport, but the major event happened in an airplane with Dean Martin as the pilot. An old woman had sneaked on board without a ticket and happened to sit next to a suicidal man with a bomb in his briefcase. One of the stewardesses (Jacqueline Bisset) was pregnant with the pilot's baby.
The pilot (Dean Martin) was a married man who had cheated on his wife.
9. Flash Gordon
Answer: Mongo
Various disasters were happening on Earth when a mad scientist forced Flash Gordon and Dale Arden to travel with him in a rocket ship to planet Mongo to find out what was happening. Everything seemed to happen in one day as the characters repeatedly got captured and escaped. Flash Gordon was a football player who was captured and supposedly executed by Ming, but Ming's daughter brought him back to life. Dale was being prepared to marry Ming. Prince Barin tried to kill Flash in two fights.
10. Dark Star
Answer: Spaceship
Men on a space ship, Dark Star, traveled throughout the universe blowing up unstable planets. Along the way an escaped alien attacked Pinback, who told the crew that he was really a stowaway who replaced the real Pinback. Later, a bomb became stuck to the space ship when it was supposed to go to the nearby planet to blow it up.
The crew tried to convince the talking bomb not to blow up yet. Pinback fought with a crew member when they argued about what to do about the argumentative bomb.
