Geoffrey Deuel portrayed Billy the Kid and also appeared on the television shows "The Mod Squad", "Ironside" and "The Name of the Game". He was the younger brother of Pete Deuel, who starred on the show "Alias Smith and Jones" but tragically committed suicide in 1971.

John Wayne starred as the lead role of John Chisum. During the filming of "Chisum" the cast received news that Wayne had been nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for "True Grit". The entire cast showed up with eye patches the next day!

Christopher George starred as Dan Nodeen, a hired gun of questionable reputation and morals. George had starred earlier with John Wayne, and also James Caan in the move "El Dorado". (1966) and later again in the "Train Robbers" (1973). George's most memorable television role was that of Sergeant Sam Troy of "Rat Patrol" from 1966 to 1968.

Ben Johnson played James Pepper who was recruited by John Chisum to serve as the ranch foreman to protect his property from attacks during the Lincoln County War. Johnson got his start in Hollywood in "Fort Apache" (1948) because of his exceptional stunt work as the riding double for Henry Fonda.
He also starred with John Wayne in "She Wore A Yellow Ribbon" and "Rio Grande". He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1971 for "The Last Picture Show".
5. Lawrence Murphy

Forrest Tucker played Lawrence Murphy, a truly despicable person who wanted to destroy all that John Chisum had built up from nothing. He enlisted a small army of hired guns to achieve his evil ends but ends up getting the worst of it and is killed by John Chisum.
He had earlier starred with John Wayne in the "Sands of Iwo Jima" (1949) as a Marine Corporal with a grudge against Wayne as Sergeant Stryker.
6. Pat Garrett

Glenn Corbett portrayed Sheriff Pat Garrett who forged a tenuous friendship with Billy the Kid. During the movie, Billy refers to Garrett by the nickname of Big Casino. Corbett also appeared the following year in another Wayne movie "Big Jake" (1971).

Bruce Cabot was part of what was called the Wayne's Regulars, a group of actors and actresses that John Wayne made sure were part of many of his films. Cabot first achieved his own fame as Jack Driscoll in "King Kong" (1933) and "The Last of the Mohicans" (1936). His first film with John Wayne was "The Angel and the Bad Man" (1947). Eventually, Cabot starred in 10 films with Wayne.
