Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What word connects these titles? You Are So _____ Baby

Answer: Beautiful

"You Are So Beautiful" and "Beautiful Baby"

Engelbert recorded Joe Cocker's 1974 hit "You Are So Beautiful," written by Billy Preston and Bruce Fisher, on his 1990 album "Heart of Gold." There is also a song called "You Are So Beautiful" by Dieter Bohlen and Barry Mason on his 1989 album "Step into My Life." "Beautiful Baby" is on "You and Your Lover" released in 1983. Even Stevens and Paul Overstreet wrote it.
2. What word connects these titles? You Are the Sunshine of My _____ Goes On

Answer: Life

"You Are the Sunshine of My Life" and "Life Goes On"

Stevie Wonder wrote and performed "You Are the Sunshine of My Life, releasing it in 1972, both as a single and, with a different arrangement, on the album "Talking Books." Paul Anka wrote "Life Goes On" (not to be confused with the Paul Williams, Craig George song of the same name). Engelbert included the Anka song on "In Time," released in 1972.
3. What word connects these titles? I Never Said _____ My Lover

Answer: Goodbye

"I Never Said Goodbye" and "Goodbye My Lover"

Engelbert introduced Les Reed and Barry Mason's "I Never Said Goodbye" on his 1972 album "In Time." He recorded "Goodbye My Lover" by James Blunt and Sacha Skarbek on his 2007 release "The Winding Road" which is subtitled "The Best of the Brits". In the liner notes to this latter album Engelbert notes with amusement that when James Blunt found out Engelbert was going to record his song he was so excited he couldn't wait to tell his mother. Very cute and most appropriate reaction, in this quiz maker's opinion.
4. What word connects these titles? Our _____ After Time

Answer: Time

"Our Time" and "Time after Time"

"Our Time" was written by F. Golde, M. Sharron and S. Geering and appears on Engelbert's album "Remember I Love You," which came out in 1987. "Time after Time" is from his 1972 "In Time" album. Terry Dempsey wrote it.
5. What word connects these titles? Winter World of _____ Was Here before the Stars

Answer: Love

"Winter World of Love" and "Love was Here before the Stars"

Here we have in one question two of the greatest songwriting teams of the 1960s, England's Les Reed & Barry Mason and the USA's Burt Bacharach & Hal David. Engelbert has recorded a number of songs by both teams through the years. Reed & Mason wrote several of his early hits as well as songs recorded by the likes of Malcolm Roberts, Tom Jones and Petula Clark as well as stars across the pond such as Elvis Presley and Bing Crosby. Bacharach & David's productions were most often sung by Dionne Warwick but their songs have also been recorded by such fine artists as The Carpenters, Herb Alpert, B.J. Thomas and even Frank Sinatra.

The Reed/Mason ballad "Winter World of Love" first appeared on the 1969 album "Engelbert Humperdinck." It has remained a staple of Engelbert's repertoire that he has rerecorded and performed in concert throughout his career. Bacharach & David's beautiful "Love Was Here before the Stars" is from the 1969 album "Engelbert."
6. What word connects these titles? What Are You Waiting _____ the Good Times

Answer: For

"What Are You Waiting For" and "For the Good Times"

The Beth Miekos/Bill Muller song "What Are You Waiting For?" is on Engelbert's 1986 album "With Love." The Kris Kristofferson favorite "For the Good Times," also recorded by such greats as Elvis Presley and Val Doonican, is on Engelbert's 1971 album "Sweetheart."
7. What word connects these titles? A Little in _____ Me with All Your Heart

Answer: Love

"A Little in Love" and "Love Me with All Your Heart"

"A Little in Love" is the title track of Engelbert's 1997 album. It was written by G. Hessing and A. Mol with English lyrics by the talented and prolific Barry Mason.

"Love Me with All Your Heart" is a favorite from early in Engelbert's career, having been recorded first on his "We Made It Happen" album, released in 1970. The origins of the song are murky. All that seems to be known for sure is that it was first published as the Spanish song "Cuando calienta el sol" in 1961 with lyrics by the brothers Mario and Carlos Rigual. The identity of the composer is disputed, as is the identity of the English lyricist. There can be no doubt, though, that the song has been very popular since its introduction in English in the mid 1960s.
8. What word connects these titles? After _____ Are There

Answer: You

"After You" and "You Are There"

"After You" is on Engelbert's 1987 album "Remember I Love You." It was written by Bob Crewe, Jeff Marmelzat, and Jerry Corbetta. Ten years earlier, Engelbert released "You Are There" on "Miracles by Engelbert Humperdinck" 1977. Larry Weiss wrote the song.
9. What word connects these titles? After the _____ you Too Long

Answer: Loving

"After the Loving" and "Loving You Too Long"

Ritchie Adams and Alan Bernstein's beloved ballad "After the Lovin'" is the title track of Engelbert's 1976 album, while the warm and wistful "Lovin' You Too Long' by Susan Bella is on his 1979 album "This Moment in Time.
10. What word connects these titles? If It Comes to _____ Promise

Answer: That

"If It Comes to That" and "That Promise"

"If It Comes to That" by Les Reed can be found on both the UK and the US issues of the 1967 album "The Last Waltz." Released in August 1967 as the flip side of the single "The Last Waltz," the Gordon Mills song "That Promise" does not seem to have appeared on an album until it was included as a bonus track on the 1988 CD reissue of the UK album "The Last Waltz."
