Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. We'll start with an easy one, but they do get tougher as they go along. Which musician is the odd one out?

Answer: Eric Clapton

The other three are most noted for playing the piano. Clapton, of course, is recognized as one of the greatest guitarists ever.
2. Which Led Zeppelin song is the odd one out?

Answer: "Whole Lotta Love"

The other three are off Zeppelin's fourth album (untitled, you know, the one with the four symbols). "Whole Lotta Love" is off Led Zeppelin II. Both classic albums from start to finish.
3. Which of these guitar virtuosos is the odd one out? And it's not the fact that Hendrix was considered a solo artist, or that he is dead. He actually was in a band called the Jimi Hendrix Experience. And it definitely has nothing to do with skin color, either. Think hard.

Answer: Ritchie Blackmore

The other three all play guitar lefthanded; Elliot Easton for the Cars, Tony Iommi for Black Sabbath, and, of course, Jimi Hendrix. Blackmore, who has had stints with Deep Purple and Rainbow, is arguably the smoothest and best guitar player of all time.
4. Which of the following musicians is the odd one out? Assume all four musicians are still alive.

Answer: Gene Simmons

The other three are all drummers. The late John Bonham played drums for Led Zeppelin. Neil Peart plays drums for Rush. Kenney Jones played drums for the Small Faces, and then for The Who after the death of Keith Moon. Gene Simmons of Kiss is most noted for playing the bass guitar.
5. Which Rolling Stones album is the odd one out?

Answer: Steel Wheels

The other three were all released in the decade of the 1970's. "Sticky Fingers" (1971), "It's Only Rock 'N' Roll" (1974), "Some Girls" (1978). "Steel Wheels" was released in 1989.
6. Which of the following songs is the odd one out? Again, it is not that three of them have people's names in them...too easy.

Answer: "Timothy" by the Buoys

The other three songs deal with the delicate subject matter of child physical and/or sexual abuse. "Timothy", the Buoys' 1971 one-hit wonder, is a kind-hearted little ditty about two miners who eat their buddy while trapped in a cave-in.
7. Which opening lyric is the odd one out?

Answer: "Sitting on a park bench, eyeing little girls with bad intent."

The other three are all opening lines to songs called "Heartbreaker". "Hey, fellas..." opens the tune by Led Zeppelin (off the album "Led Zeppelin II" - 1969). "Your love..." opens the tune of the same name, sung by Pat Benatar (off the album "In the Heat of the Night" - 1979). "The police..." opens the tune by the Rolling Stones.

The actual title of this Stones' song is "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)"(off the album "Goat's Head Soup" - 1973), but it is nearly always referred to by the alternate title. "Sitting on a park bench..." opens the Jethro Tull classic "Aqualung" - (off the album "Aqualung" - 1971).
8. Which of the following bands is the odd one out? Hint: The answer has nothing to do with dead band members. Think a little harder.

Answer: Led Zeppelin

The other three bands all have at least two members who are brothers. INXS actually has three brothers in the band - Andrew (guitar/keyboards), Tim (guitar) and Jon Fariss (drums). The Kinks are led by the brothers Ray and Dave Davies. AC/DC includes brothers Malcolm and Angus Young.
9. Which of the following bands is the odd one out?

Answer: Blind Faith

The other three bands all had Paul Rodgers as their lead singer. Rodgers was with Free from 1968 until 1973. He formed Bad Company shortly thereafter and stayed with the band until the early 1980's. Rodgers later joined Jimmy Page, Tony Franklin, and Chris Slade to create The Firm.

The Firm released two albums - "The Firm" (1985) and "Mean Business" (1986). Rodgers has also had a very successful solo career. Blind Faith consisted of Steve Winwood (vocals/keyboard), Eric Clapton (guitar), Ric Grech (bass), and Ginger Baker (drums). Blind Faith had one album in 1969, which spawned the hit "Can't Find My Way Home".
10. Which of the following bands in the odd one out?

Answer: REO Speedwagon

The other three bands all consist of three members. Cream consisted of Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, and Ginger Baker. The Police consisted of Sting (Gordon Sumner), Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland. Rush consists of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neil Peart. REO Speedwagon has had several bandmates come and go over the years, but has almost always consisted of five members at any one time.
11. Which band is the odd one out?

Answer: Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band

The other three bands were all formed in Florida in the 1970's. The Outlaws formed in Tampa, FL, in 1972, and released such hits as "Green Grass and High Tides", "Hurry Sundown", and "There Goes Another Love Song". Molly Hatchet formed in Jacksonville, FL, and released their self-titled debut album in 1978. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are from Gainesville, FL, and released their self-titled debut album in 1976. Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band are from Detroit, Michigan.
12. Which girlie song is the odd one out? The fact that three begin with the letter C is not the answer. That would be a little too easy; don't ya think?

Answer: "Oh Sherrie"

The other three were all written and recorded by Cheap Trick. "Oh Candy" was off the Trick's debut album from 1977. "Oh Caroline" was off the "Heaven Tonight" album (1978). "Oh Claire" is a rare gem that can be found on some of their live albums and the newly remastered "Heaven Tonight" CD. "Oh Sherrie" was a successful solo hit by Journey frontman Steve Perry, off the album "Street Talk" (1984).

Hey, what do ya know, the answer was the one that didn't begin with the letter C.
13. Which of the following women of rock stars is the odd one out?

Answer: Anita Pallenberg

The other three were all first wives of Beatles. Cynthia Powell married John Lennon in 1962, divorced in 1968. Cynthia was the mother of Julian Lennon, who had fleeting musical success in the 1980's. Lennon married Yoko Ono in 1969. Maureen Cox married Ringo Starr in 1965, divorced in 1975. Ringo later married Barbara Bach in 1981. Patty Boyd married George Harrison in 1966, divorced in 1977. Harrison later married Olivia Arias in 1978. Anita Pallenberg was the common-law wife of Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones. Richards and Pallenberg were together for about ten years, beginning in the late 1960's, and had three children together.

15. Which punk rocker is the odd one out?

Answer: John Ritchie

The other three are all birth names of members of The Ramones. The Ramones took their band name from an alias that Paul McCartney once used, Paul Ramone. The band members all assumed the last name of Ramone. The late Joey Ramone (lead vocals) was born Jeffrey Hyman. Johnny Ramone (guitar) was born John Cummings. Marky Ramone (drums) was born Marc Bell. John Ritchie is the birth name of the late, great Sid Vicious, bass player for the Sex Pistols.
