Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. British actor and comedian, best known for his comedic collaboration with Oliver Hardy.

Answer: Stan Laurel

Stan Laurel (born Arthur Stanley Jefferson) met his comedy partner Oliver Hardy while working for the Hal Roach film studio. The pair's chemistry on and off screen led them to become one of the twentieth century's most beloved double acts.
2. British politician for the Conservative Party and Prime Minister for three (non-consecutive) terms between 1923 and 1937.

Answer: Stanley Baldwin

Baldwin's first stint as UK PM started in 1923 after Andrew Bonar Law stepped down due to ill health. Less than a year later, his Conservative party shifted to being the Opposition, but once again swept to power in the 1924 general election. His second tenure lasted just shy of five years before Labour took the office at the 1929 election.

A rocky coalition with Labour heading into the Great Depression saw Baldwin once again leading the country, this time from behind Labour's Ramsay MacDonald who officially held the post of Prime Minister.

The latter ceded his post to Baldwin in 1935 and marked the official start of his third turn in the top office. He finally stepped down for good in 1937 after George VI took the throne.
3. Swiss tennis player who won the men's singles at the 2016 US Open.

Answer: Stan Wawrinka

Wawrinka's first Grand Slam title came in 2014 when he beat then-number 1 Rafael Nadal in the final of the Australian Open. The following year, Wawrinka won the men's singles of the French Open, once again up against the number 1 seeded player, Novak Djokovic. The pair met again in 2016 in the final of the US Open and Wawrinka scored his third Grand Slam.
4. Legendary American comic book writer, notable for his association with Marvel and frequent superhero film cameos.

Answer: Stan Lee

Originally an assistant at Timely Comics, Stan Lee is best known for helping create many popular comic book superheroes, including the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and Spider-Man, amongst numerous others. With the resurgence of superhero films in the early 21st century, many of which were adapted from Lee's co-creations as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Lee (or his likeness) has made cameo appearances.
5. American actor, known for his roles in the films "Big Night" (1996), "The Lovely Bones" (2009), and the television series "Murder One" (1995-96).

Answer: Stanley Tucci

Stanley Tucci first hit the big screen in 1985's "Prizzi's Honor" and since then has starred in numerous films and television programmes. His role as serial killer George Harvey in "The Lovely Bones" (2009) earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the 2010 Academy Awards.
6. American film director, whose notable works include "2001: A Space Odyssey" (1968), "A Clockwork Orange" (1971), and "The Shining" (1980).

Answer: Stanley Kubrick

Kubrick is regarded as one of the most acclaimed directors of the twentieth century. His early directorial work in America included "Killer's Kiss" (1955) and "Spartacus" (1960) before he relocated to the UK and worked on such films as the three aforementioned works, as well as "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" (1964), "Full Metal Jacket" (1987) and "Eyes Wide Shut" (1999), the latter being his last directed film before his death.
7. American rapper and producer, perhaps more familiar to us as MC Hammer.

Answer: Stanley Burrell

Arguably Burrell's most recognisable hit is "U Can't Touch This" (1990) under the moniker of MC Hammer, which topped charts across the world after its release and won two awards at the 1991 Grammys. Outside the music sphere, Burrell's other pursuits include being a preacher on American television and starting an MMA management company.
8. British architect and designer, best known for designing several London Underground station buildings.

Answer: Stanley Heaps

Heaps' work, alongside his contemporaries Frank Pick and Charles Holden, is still evident in London today, with notable London Underground stations built from his plans including Kilburn Park and Edgware.
9. American saxophonist, whose sound was heard on the 1964 hit "The Girl from Ipanema".

Answer: Stan Getz

The tenor saxophone was Getz's preferred instrument and most notably heard on 1964's "The Girl from Ipanema" in between the vocal talents of Astrud Gilberto. Despite being a proponent of the bossa nova style, Getz's talents lay in cool jazz, performing in many ensembles throughout his lifetime, including alongside the legendary jazz trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie.
10. South African-born British comedian and inventor of a humorous constructed language that bore his name.

Answer: Stanley Unwin
