Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Whose former toilet, bathtub and sink were offered for sale in an ad in the "New York Times"?

Answer: Princess Margaret

These were fixtures from her home in the Caribbean. The Princess was born in 1930 and died in 2002.
2. Who was sued for falsely implying that her children's unmarried nanny had had an abortion or miscarriage?

Answer: Princess Diana

Di reportedly went up to the nanny at a party and said, "So sorry to hear about the baby". There was no baby, so a lawsuit ensued.
3. Prior to 2004 Queen Elizabeth had refused to permit a statue or memorial to be erected for this royal. Who was it?

Answer: Princess Diana

It seems Liz wasn't very fond of Di. The kid didn't toe the line the way Lizzie thought she should.
4. Before this Royal died, a British newspaper asked its readers to state what he or she had contributed to Great Britain. One of the responses was "(S)he has kept the gin industry going." Who was it?

Answer: The Queen Mother

The Queen Mum passed on in 2002 at age 101. She was the widow of Elizabeth's dad, King George VI, who died in 1952. She reportedly guzzled a bottle of gin a day, starting in the morning. The newspaper was the "Manchester Guardian". There were other uncomplimentary comments about her.
5. As a child, this royal enjoyed tying the guardsmens' shoelaces together and dumping bubble bath into the Windsor Castle swimming pool. Who was it?

Answer: Prince Andrew

He also enjoyed trying to run the dogs down with his pedal car. He is the brother of Prince Charles and Princess Anne.
6. Which royal has or had a tattoo?

Answer: Prince Charles

Description and location of said tattoo were not available at press time. Wonder if Camilla likes it!
7. Which royal goes or used to go around Buckingham Palace turning off lights?

Answer: Queen Elizabeth

The Queen is the richest woman in the world but is also described in "Greta Garbage's Outrageous Bathroom Book" as "notoriously frugal".
8. Which member of the House of Windsor is said to carry, or to have carried, their own toilet seat while traveling?

Answer: Queen Elizabeth

Of course, she's not the one who does the actual carrying, although that possibility does conjure up quite a droll image! The seat is described as a "soft, leather white toilet seat" ("Greta Garbage's Outrageous Bathroom Book"). Some say Prince Charles is the guilty party, which is why I didn't include him as a choice.
9. Who got warts from another royal by way of a pair of borrowed shoes?

Answer: Sarah Ferguson

They were reportedly a pair of Air Jordans. Just kidding. They were Keds.
10. Two of the gems in the British Imperial State Crown are not what they appear to be.

Answer: True

Two of the major jewels aren't quite kosher, shall we say. The big ruby is a cheap imitation with a small red ruby in the center. The big sapphire is two smaller, sapphires put together and the "Black Prince's Ruby" in the cross pattée is in fact a spinel. My thanks to "Greta Garbage's Outrageous Bathroom Book", a wealth of info, and also, I might add, the first book where I've ever seen a reference to funtrivia.com. On page 158, we find an explanation of the origin of the British word "loo" for bathroom. Wonder whose quiz that was?
