All He Does Is Kill People Trivia Quiz

Actually, he steals and destroys too, in addition to killing (John 10:10). Match these titles of Satan, also known as the devil, to their descriptions. I mainly used the New American Standard Bible.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Based on the belief that Satan tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden

Answer: Serpent

Some people argue that the Bible doesn't really say that Satan was behind the serpent tempting Eve, but I disagree with that. It is true that Genesis itself doesn't connect the serpent to Satan, but other parts of the Bible do suggest that Satan, the main fallen angel and ringleader of the other fallen angels, was the mastermind behind the serpent.

Revelation 12:9, for example, states:
"And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him" (New American Standard Bible).

It makes sense that "the serpent of old" is an allusion to Genesis. In addition, Ezekiel 28 seems to describe Satan's fall from Heaven, in which verse 13 specifically says, "You were in Eden". Putting those verses together, I think it is pretty clear that Satan was the serpent in Eden. Traditionally, Christians have believed that the devil tempted Eve because of such verses.

Genesis 3 makes it clear that God cursed a real animal, which is why snakes, who originally had legs, slither to this day (according to the Bible). So, what gives? It appears that Satan either possessed or influenced the literal serpent to behave badly.
2. Isaiah 14 implies that this was the original angel's name before he fell

Answer: Lucifer

The name Lucifer means "morning star" or "light bearer". While the King James and a few other translations use the word "Lucifer", others use some phrase related to its definition, like "Day Star" or "son of the morning".

The belief that Lucifer was the most beautiful angel before he rebelled against God is based on both Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28. While Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28 are technically addressed to the kings of Babylon and Tyre, the verses cannot possibly refer only to mortal kings, because no mortal king would be in Heaven, or in Eden, or be a cherub.

Isaiah 14:12, New American Standard Bible:
"How you have fallen from heaven,
O star of the morning, son of the dawn!
You have been cut down to the earth,
You who have weakened the nations!"

Ezekiel 28:12-13:
"You were in Eden, the garden of God;
Every precious stone was your covering:
The ruby, the topaz and the diamond;
The beryl, the onyx and the jasper;
The lapis lazuli, the turquoise and the emerald;
And the gold, the workmanship of your settings and sockets,
Was in you.
On the day that you were created
They were prepared.
You were the anointed cherub who covers,
And I placed you there."

As these verses show, God kicked Lucifer out of Heaven and put him, not in Hell, but on Earth. This made it very easy for him to find the serpent and seek his revenge against God.
3. Often considered to be his proper name, it means "adversary"

Answer: Satan

After Lucifer "fell" or was kicked out of Heaven, his name was changed to Satan, which means "adversary". One of his titles is the devil, just like Jesus's name is Jesus but one of His titles is the Lord.

There seems to be a popular misconception about Satan, that he currently lives in Hell as the ruler of the underworld, somewhat like the Greek god Hades. This isn't Scriptural. According to the Bible, Satan is going to the lake of fire--after Christ's second coming--he hasn't even been there yet! The Biblical devil roams the earth; he is the god of this world.
4. In John 6:70, Jesus implied that Judas Iscariot was one of these; it means "accuser" or "diabolical"

Answer: Devil

Jesus, while not mentioning his name, implied that Judas Iscariot was a devil. Notice that Judas was *a* devil, but Satan is *the* devil. Satan is the ultimate diabolical being.

Judas Iscariot was, of course, the disciple who turned Jesus in to the Jewish authorities. I personally believe that Satan gave him the idea to betray Jesus, but Judas still chose to do what he did.
5. The lord of the flies or ruler of the demons

Answer: Beelzebub/Beelzebul

The name Beelzebub means "lord of the flies". A variation of this, Beelzebul, appears in some translations, including the New American Standard Bible.

It originally referred to a Philistian god (see 2 Kings 1:2). The Jews used it as another name for Satan, the ruler of the demons. In Matthew 12, they accused Jesus of casting out demons by Beelzebul's power. Jesus argued that Satan cannot cast out demons; he cannot go against his own spirits.

In "Paradise Lost", John Milton named one of the demons, instead of the devil, "Beelzebub".
6. In Revelation 9:11, the angel of the abyss or pit (a *possible* title of Satan)

Answer: Abaddon

Revelation 9 speaks of an angel or demon called "Abaddon" in Hebrew and "Apollyon" in Greek. He is called the king of the abyss (or pit) and the king of horrible, demonic creatures that look like locusts but have scorpion-like tails and teeth like lions.

According to Revelation 20, Satan will be bound in the abyss for a thousand years, but he will be released to Earth again. Not everybody agrees that Abaddon is the same as Satan. Some Christians believe that Abaddon is a different fallen angel, so I said that it is a possible title for Satan.

The abyss is different from the lake of fire. The evangelical website GotQuestions.org says that some demons are held captive in the abyss, while others are allowed to move freely around Earth. However, the devil and his demons will all eventually be tormented in the lake of fire for eternity.
7. In John 8:44, Jesus said that the devil was the ___

Answer: Father of lies

In John 8:44, Jesus called the devil the father of lies. He also called the Jewish leaders who wanted to kill Him the children of the devil.

The Jews argued that their Father was God, but Jesus said that if they were truly sons of God, they would believe in Jesus, because Jesus claimed that He came from God the Father.
8. A title given to him in 2 Corinthians 6:15 (note: a few translations say "the devil", but I want the title most other translations use here)

Answer: Belial

Many translations, such as the New American Standard Bible, use "Belial", but a few, such as the New Living Translation, simply say "the devil".

John Milton used "Belial" as a name for a demon, instead of the devil himself, in "Paradise Lost".
9. In 2 Corinthians 4:4; implies that most people are controlled by the devil's deceptions

Answer: The god of this world

The Bible isn't politically correct. If anything in this quiz comes off as offensive to religions other than Christianity, it is because the Bible is offensive, not because I am trying to be offensive.

According to 2 Corinthians 4:4, Satan has blinded people against the gospel of Jesus Christ. He is *not* really a god; he is an angel. However, in his pride, he wants to be like God, so he always tries to get people to worship him.
10. The Book of Revelation calls Satan the serpent and the large red ___

Answer: Dragon

Revelation calls Satan the dragon several times. Chapter 12 specifically calls him the red dragon.

We usually think of dragons as creatures who breath fire and capture princesses. I wouldn't put it past Satan to capture a princess, by the way. He is evil. I suppose he could even breath fire. An archaic definition of "dragon" meant a huge serpent, though. Also, creationists commonly believe that dragons were actually dinosaurs.
