The Israelites as well as some judges were disobedient, idolatrous and often defeated. The nation has a cycle of moral and spiritual decline, disobedience, idolatry, intermarriage, defeats; repentance and serving the Lord. Six of the 14 judges were military judges. Two as spiritual leaders: Eli as judge and High-Priest (not good), and Samuel, as judge, priest and prophet (a good example).
