Answer: doctor

The series revolved around Dr. Marsh Tracy, a widowed veterinarian, who worked on a game preserve in Africa. Since he was an animal doctor, he was called "daktari" by the indigenous residents. The character of Dr. Tracy was based on the career of the Dutch-born veterinarian and environmentalist, Dr. A.M. "Toni" Harthoorn, who operated an animal rescue operation in Nairobi, Kenya.

Answer: Marshall Thompson

Thompson broke into movies in the 1940s playing well-behaved teen characters. Later he appeared in several horror/science fiction films. In 1965 he starred in the movie on which this spin-off TV series was based. That led to his role in the TV show. He passed away in 1992 at age 66.

Answer: Cheryl Miller

Not to be confused with the basketball player, coach and sports broadcaster of the same name. Cheryl Miller, the actress, found work as a guest star in may TV programs in the 1960s and 70s. She retired from acting in 1980.

"Daktari" was a spin-off of the movie "Clarence the Cross-Eyed Lion" in which Marshall Thompson and Cheryl Miller had also starred (under different character names, though). Clarence actually had two stunt doubles - one to film scenes involving motor vehicles since they bothered Clarence, and another fiercer lion to film scenes where humans were not involved.

Originally broadcast on the CBS network, "Daktari" aired for 4 seasons. Season 1 ran from January to June of 1966. Season 2 was September 1966 to April 1967. Season 3 aired from September 1967 to March 1968, and the final season was broadcast from September 1968 to January 1969.

Answer: Shelly Manne

Manne used African rhythms and instruments to achieve the exotic sound. He also re-recorded this theme in 1968 for Atlantic Records.
