Stephen King's "Desperation" Trivia Quiz

When Peter and Mary Jackson are pulled over on Interstate 50 (the loneliest highway in the U.S.) Collie Entragian comes upon a bag of marijuana in the trunk of Peter's sister's car. Because of this, he arrests them for possession of an illegal drug with intentions to sell.

They decide not to oppose the police despite the fact that the marijuana isn't theirs, and they arrive in Desperation where Peter is shot and killed by Sheriff Entragian. This marijuana is later used against Johnny Marinville.

Answer: Soap

After Collie Entragian retrieves Johnny Marinville from the side of the interstate and frames him for possession, he stuffs him into the prison in Desperation with the others and takes Ellen Carver with him to the China Pit Mines. Collie places a wild dog in charge under his command and David Carver has a vision where his sister hands him a bar of soap. Using soap he finds in his cell he is able to squeeze out the bars while the others distract the dog and he finds a gun to kill the beast and free his fellow captives.

The Carvers were on a cross-country vacation in their RV before Collie Entragian managed to get them into his police cruiser and drive them to Desperation. Once they arrived at the police station, Entragian pushed Pie down a flight of stairs, killing her, and he locked the others into the cells. Pie later returns to David in visions in order to help him solve the mysteries behind Desperation and save the world from Tak.

Answer: A hand

After coming across the headquarters of the Desperation Mining Company, Cynthia and Steve find it deserted. When they that find the phones are dead they investigate the area and find that a severed hand is in an office aquarium. Further investigation of the building leads the couple to a room full of dead bodies and a can-tah waiting on a desk.

The power of this nearly draws them in, but an electrical surge snaps them out of the trance.

Answer: Rattlesnake Mine

In the old Rattlesnake Mine, the owners of the Desperation Mining Company unearthed a deadly spirit bent on killing everyone. David Carver learns the story of the first people who discovered the mine by watching a film in the abandoned theater in Desperation, and he and the others plan to stop Tak before he can go loose and destroy the world.

Answer: Tom Billingsly

After the group of prisoners come across Steve and Cynthia in the streets of Desperation, Tom Billingsly leads everyone to the abandoned theater which they feel is safe. Here they rest and have a bite to eat before Tom wanders off to the bathroom for a drink.

Here he's attacked by a bobcat controlled by Tak (who is now in the body of Ellen Carver). During this, David goes missing in the theater, and while everyone looks for him Mary stays back with Tom in the washroom. Ellen takes the opportunity to capture Mary by pulling her out the window, and she takes her to the mines.

Answer: Cary Ripton

Cary Ripton managed the Desperation Mining Company prior to the invasion of Tak, but when the chamber was opened, Cary was first to hold the spirit within him. Following this, Cary used the body of Collie Entragian until it deteriorated too much and he took Ellen to the mines. Unfortunately, due to an infection, Ellen's body was quicker to break down.

After being kidnapped by Ellen, Mary was placed in the mining trailer containing the bodies of Cary and Collie, but she was able to escape out a hole she created in the wall. Before Ellen could capture her, she was able to drive away and Tak was forced to leave Ellen's body and insert itself into a crow. Mary was able to reunite with the others.

Answer: A shotgun shell

Before entering the cave, the group was attacked by the Tak-crow which Mary was able to kill. Unfortunately it took the life of David's father, his last remaining family member, with it. Johnny was able to sneak a shotgun shell out of David's pocket (because he had picked one up off the floor in the prison), and with ammonium nitrate he destroyed the well and the mine while the others escaped.

Answer: A photo album

After fleeing Desperation, Steve, Cynthia, David, and Mary come across Mary and Peter's car, which was left at the side of the road. In the back seat, they find David's photo album with a new picture inside. On the picture are the words John 4:8, which David recognizes as "God is Love".

The group realizes through the movie that God had chosen them to save the world although many were lost along the way.
