Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first scene of the game, the players were confronted by bad guys on what?

Answer: motorcycles

As the three players crouched behind the metal barricade, a group of motorcyclists pulled out from around the corners at the far end of the room and sped toward them. When they got close enough, the players opened fire on them.
2. How did Maitreya kill her first victim?

Answer: shot him

The player, Retro, had run into an underground side-area and found himself confronted by Maitreya. Retro, of course, didn't realize the danger and was more interested in gawking at the scantily clad bombshell. Maitreya held her hand out to Retro and let him kiss it, then told him, "I am Maitreya.

This is my game." Her hand then morphed so she was holding a flintlock pistol and she fired, killing Retro.
3. What government agency did Daryl Musashi sometimes work for?

Answer: CIA

When Musashi entered the building, the Lone Gunmen and Mulder were all clearly impressed, so Scully was forced to ask who he was. Mulder informed her that Musashi was the "Original Guru." Byers then chimed in, "Word is he slums as a game designer when he's not contracted to the CIA. The boy wonder of virtual mayhem." Ivan had recruited Musashi to go into the game and kill Maitreya.
4. How did Maitreya maim Musashi before killing him?

Answer: cut off his hands

Musashi had been making his way through the game confidently, impressing the nerds in the control room. When he ran into Maitreya, though, things changed. He turned to find her and she cut his hands off with a sword. Then, after speaking quietly to him in Japanese, she swung her sword again and cut off his head!
5. Who did Jade Blue Afterglow say she upset at the precinct?

Answer: the man running the metal detector

When Scully told Ms. Afterglow that she wasn't upsetting her, Ms. Afterglow assured Scully and Mulder that she had upset the man running the metal detector, then uncrossed and crossed her legs a la "Basic Instinct". Mulder was enjoying the show being put on, but Scully just seemed tired of it.
6. What did Mulder say before stepping out of the module to join the Lone Gunmen in the game?

Answer: "Bring it on."

As he said that, the gate slid up and Mulder ran out to join the Gunmen. He covered them as they ran back into the module, but when he saw Maitreya, he went after her instead of following the Gunmen to safety.
7. Who created Maitreya?

Answer: Phoebe

Though Langly had been recruited to program some of the bad guys (the "Euro goons" according to him), Maitreya was Phoebe's creation. She'd originated as Phoebe's way of having a female character to live vicariously through, who could stand on her own in the violent man's world.

However, when she jumped into the First Person Shooter game and started gaining power, she became too dangerous to control!
8. After Mulder pulled Maitreya's sword out of the wall, the game went to Level 2, which appeared in the form of what?

Answer: Old West town

There were even tumbleweeds that rolled across the street in case the buildings and wardrobe weren't clear! When Maitreya arrived, she had pistols and appeared ready for a duel, but all Mulder had was the sword. Realizing the shortcomings of his weapon, Mulder dropped the sword and said, "That's not really fair, is it?"
9. What was the kill switch command?

Answer: shift-alt-bloodbath

With pressure from the Lone Gunmen, Phoebe caved in and gave Frohike the command. They successfully killed the game, but when they ran down to the playing area and saw no sign of Scully and Mulder, they feared they had killed them as well! Then Phoebe found a discarded gun and they pulled open the entry doors to find Scully and Mulder lying on the floor, alive but exhausted.
10. What did Mulder exclaim when the Lone Gunmen and Phoebe found him and Scully in the module?

Answer: "That's entertainment!"

He said this as the others helped the agents to their feet. Then, as they all walked out of the playing space, Mulder concluded, "We came, we saw, we conquered. And if the taste of victory is sweet, the taste of virtual victory is not Sweet 'N Low, nor the bullets made of sugar. Maybe out past where the imagination ends our true natures lie, waiting to be confronted on their own terms. Out where the intellect is at war with the primitive brain in the hostile territory of the digital world where laws are silent and rules disappear in the midst of arms.

Born in anarchy with an unquenchable bloodthirst we shudder to think what might rise up from the darkness."
