What is the final boss saying to the player? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The game begins with Doomguy traveling along a spaceport in an unknown location. Of course, he has an army of demons to fight, but what is his objective this time around?

Answer: Hold them off for the fate of humanity

At this point, the invasion onto Earth has reached a breaking point, and it seems all is lost. The plan then shifts towards getting the last portion of humanity which has survived into a spaceship, then send them off so they can survive the complete collapse of Earth. Doom guy's goal is to repel the incoming demons which aim to prevent their escape.
2. Once Doom Guy has completed his duties at the space port, he returns to Earth to prepare himself for his death. However, it is just then discovered that the heart of the demon invasion - and the means to stop it once and for all - has been located within a city Doom Guy decides to venture into. Where does he go?

Answer: His hometown

The game simply tells the player that this is taking place within Doom Guy's hometown, without specifically identifying where exactly that is. The development team specifically avoided naming Doom Guy because they wanted the identity of him to be the very player themselves. Thus, refraining from identifying a specific town was likely an endeavor in immersion, prompting the player to imagine the invasion taking place in their own hometown.
3. Before leaving the spaceport, Doom Guy will encounter a boss fight. Here, he must stave off groups of two kinds of demon. What kinds of demon are these?

Answer: Mancubi and Arachnotrons

The fight opens up with, depending on the difficulty setting, anywhere from four to eight Mancubi in the center of a moderately sized room, leaving a few pillars for Doom Guy to take cover behind, to evade their incoming fireballs. Once they are slain, the walls around the room will open, allowing anywhere from six to a dozen Arachnotrons to venture into the room.
4. MAP 20 "Gotcha!" is one of the most famous maps in the game. Here, the player will stumble into an incredibly narrow room, with very little ammo, where none other than both the Cyberdemon and Spider Mastermind are slowly lowered on two small platforms. The player has nowhere near enough ammo to deal with one, let alone both, and the room is very small and has no means of defense for the player to shield themselves from their attacks. So, what is the only way the player can defeat the tandem?

Answer: Make them attack each other

This map places an exclamation point on the game's unique mechanic referred to as 'monster in-fighting'. To put it simply, if Doom Guy is not actively attacking a monster, which is accidentally struck by another monster, the damaged monster will begin to attack the offender.

In this scenario, the idea is to cause the Cyberdemon to accidentally shoot the Spider Mastermind with a rocket. This can be done by simply getting the Cyberdemon's attention, then maneuvering behind the Spider Mastermind right as he is about to fire a rocket, thus using the spider as a meat shield of sorts. Upon doing so, the Spider Mastermind will turn around and begin to shoot the Cyberdemon with its chain gun.

The two will then engage in an entertaining fight to the death, where the winner, usually the Cyberdemon, will be conveniently weakened to the point where the player can finish him off, even with low ammo. Attempting to enter the room with guns blazing will surely not end well, so the idea is to make use of the monster in-fighting mechanic in order to progress.
5. After venturing into the city, Doom Guy has one final destination to end the demonic presence on Earth once and for all. Where does Doom Guy venture toward here?

Answer: Hell

Unsurprisingly, Doom Guy decides to take the fight right to the source of the demon spawn: their home field, Hell itself. This is where the game's difficulty starts to rise quite quickly!
6. When Doom Guy encountered the final boss back in "DOOM 1993", it was the nasty, sly, deadly Spider Mastermind. Who is the final boss in this game?

Answer: The Icon of Sin

The Icon of Sin is a massive demon, standing at least twenty feet tall, capable of summoning an endless army of demons to fight Doom Guy. This fight caps off the game as a whole, saving Earth and its inhabitants from otherwise certain destruction.
7. As the game would have it, only one weapon can actually be used to damage the final boss. What weapon is this?

Answer: The rocket launcher

The only way to damage the Icon of Sin is to fire three rockets into the creature's exposed brain, which is responsible for creating an endless amount of demons. The brain itself is exposed by a very small opening, too small for the BFG-9000's shots to fit into.

The Icon of Sin is also too far away for Doom Guy to try anything with melee, while the Super Shotgun and other weapons simply fail to do any damage at all. Thus, Doom Guy will need the services of the rocket launcher to win this fight.
8. Before engaging in combat with the final boss, some seemingly random demonic ramblings are uttered towards the player. These ramblings seem foreign, but if the player were to simply take the voice clip and edit it so it was played backwards, the ramblings actually utter a sentence spoken in clear English. What is the final boss saying to the player?

Answer: "To win the game you must kill me, John Romero"

A crafty enough player with the means to delve into the game's code will actually find that, hidden behind the Icon of Sin's body, there is an 8-bit version of executive producer John Romero's body hung on a bloodied stick. Romero's body is hung right behind the small opening Doom Guy must shoot rockets into, so in essence, the player is indeed killing John Romero.

In an exclusive interview, fellow executive producers Adrian and John Carmack remarked on how this seemingly random arrangement was proof that the team had a genuinely fun time developing the game as a whole.
9. At the end of the game, as the game congratulates the player for winning the game, what does it suggest "is going to be fun" for the player to do, following the ultimate defeat of the demonic forces on Earth?

Answer: Rebuilding Earth

With there being no ulterior motive here, Doom Guy seems to look forward to rebuilding Earth. This process seems to imply that doing so will become the basis of a sequel to the game.
10. Overall, how many levels must the player complete to win the game?

Answer: Thirty

MAP 30 is the final boss fight, marking the end of the game. Unlike its predecessor, there is no way to actually skip levels via any sort of 'secret exit' so the player is going to have complete every level in the game to claim that they've truly beaten it.
