Hurricane Hazel, 1954 appears to be the best candidate for this. It made it all the way to Canada with hurricane force winds, mostly because it was moving so quickly.
The effects of Hurricane Hazel in Canada included 81 deaths and C$137,552,400 ($1,126,947,163 in 2009) in damages. Hazel, the deadliest and costliest storm of the 1954 Atlantic hurricane season, reached Toronto, Ontario by the evening of October 15, 1954. It peaked as a category 4 storm, but by the time it reached Canada, it was an extratropical category 1 storm after merging with an existing cold front south of Ontario. Due to an area of high pressure to the north-east, Hazel stalled over Toronto and lost most of its moisture.

"As Hazel moved rapidly inland, its winds only slowly diminished with a gust to 110 mph reported at Fayetteville and 90 mph at the Raleigh-Durham Airport. Wind gusts near 100 mph were reported from numerous locations in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York as Hazel raced northward. Myrtle Beach, SC reported a peak gust of 106 mph; Washington DC reported sustained winds to 78 mph while peak gusts to over 90 mph were reported far to the north in New York state. In New York City, a peak gust of 113 mph was recorded at the Battery at the south end of Manhattan."

I don't know if this is the correct answer, but I live just west of Cincinnati, Ohio and in September of 2008 we were struck by Hurricane Ike. I'm not talking about the remnants of a Hurricane, we were hit by straight line 75-85 mph winds. Much of the city and surrounding area was out of power for a week or more. Thousands of big, old trees were blown over by Ike's wind, homes were damaged, businesses were shut down for a week or more. Cincinnati is about 1000 miles from Galveston, where Ike reached landfall. I'm not saying we felt sorry for ouselves, because people died in Texas and dameage was much worse there, but still, Cincinnati?

Looking at NOAA Historical Hurricane Tracks, Hazel was a extratropical storm when it hit Toronto, it went from a H# to ET storm in Virginia. Ike was also a extratropical storm by the time it reached Missouri. I do not know the answer to this but suggest looking at the NOAA site for more information.
